Ovulation Tests - which one?

I used CB ovulation tests last year for three cycles but they were pretty expensive. I think I am going to start testing again in Feb and I noticed that many people seem to use other more basic ones (ebay) etc.

Can anyone recommend a good website/brand etc?

Thanks so much

Boots have (last week) an offer on their own brand ovulation sticks... save about £8 I think.

I bought a natural fertility book and a thermometer from boots which came in a kit... worked for us first time we tried but that could have just been babydust instead. Couldn't really afford to splash out on the other test kits so thought we'd give temperature and mucus thing a go first!!

I bought some off Ebay, a company called Fertility Plan. Cheap, Easy and worked

Ready · 27/01/2007 23:37

Oh yeah, and greedy just bought a stack of them and got her BFP... so something tells me they might be on offer from her

My doc said to be careful with ov tests. I spoke to him about the investigations they do when you've been ttc for a yr with no success and along with the old "lose weight" thing, they tell u 2 throw away any ov tests as they can actually stop u from ovulating properly. DP trying without them now.

Ready · 27/01/2007 23:47

I don't know how weeing on a stick can stop you from ovulating ... I guess in terms of getting stressed out, and that delaying/preventing OV. But not the actual tests.

At the end of the day, you have to do what makes you happiest... if that means testing and charting and looking for EWCM then great, or if you prefer a more 'wait and see' approach, there's nothing wrong with that either. I think GPs are suspicious of a lot of things, and they aren't always prepared to open their minds to alternative methods of things.

Well i'd been using ov tests and were happy but 1 day i was in there and decided to bring up the subject of investigating etc and he showed me the chart they use when they start the investigations + at the top was "throw out any ov kits". Apparently because you're almost willing your body to ov and are looking for it to happen, your mind tells your system that and basically pops anything out (good or bad!)

I just get told these things

Im trying anything now! I've done pelvic floor exercises after BD'ing this month, agnus castus next (if i have to) and the month after that, a herb called maca!

Ready · 27/01/2007 23:59

Be careful with the herbs... I am always wary of things like that when it comes to fertility. Just make sure you read as much information as you can, and get as much advice as you can too.

Sorry if I sound all preachy!!

babylove123 · 28/01/2007 00:04

hey Ready, never preachy, always useful thanks

I've decided to give anything a shot (without being dangerous of course!)

Was gonna try that ovluex but decided on these 1st as they're rather expensive!

Thanks Ready & Babylove - I am just coming to the end of cycle #10 (AF on her merry way as we speak) so trying to think positive for #11.

I did use the ov tests for a few months back in the first few cycles then went to docs in October and he said exactely the same as yours babylove - told me to throw away all the tests, no temping, charting etc just BD 3 times a week. I understand what they are saying but its not entirely practical - lets face it we wouldn't be bothering with any of it if it was that easy to get pg!

Well have tried his advice for last 4 months and still no joy - so going to give the tests a try again just to see if cycle is doing what I think it is. And off to see an alternative therapist in Feb also - giving up on unhelpful conventional docs!!

I have ordered some of the ones you mentioned off ebay but may go and get some boots ones as well to be sure

Seaside, sorry to hear cycle 11 has had to come Yeh, maybe you should use the ov kits for this month and see wot your cycle is up to. Yeh stupid docs dont seem to realise that bd'ing 3 times a week is not that practical! Give me morning sickness in place of a restful evening and sleep any day!!!

Good luck for 11
