Either from the GP or from the hospital clinic? Does anyone know how the test is carried out? They take the blood and what do they do with it? How long until the result shows up?

AFAIK the results are quickly obtained, but not always quickly done IYSWIM as it depends on how busy the clinical area is. At the EPU I attended, blood results were provided on the same day. They check HCG and how much is in the blood - this can give an idea of how the pregnancy is progressing, but usually they need to do more than one test for comparison.

sorry don't know about ivf but I know if an early pregnancy test is being monitored (i.e if at risk) they test every 2-3 days to make sure the hormone HCG is doubling (sign of good pregnancy).

oops meant early pregnancy not early pregnancy test

They will measure the level of HCG I think as she may have had an HCG injection as part of the treatment so a urine test could give a false positive.

By checking the blood level they will be able to see if the result is due to residual HCG left over from IVF or if it is indeed a pregnancy producing its own HCG (I hope it is for her!!)

When I was having my HCG tested the results were back within a few hours. I would say or day or so is the maximum she should have to wait.

Thank you for all your help, her injections are to try to extend her cycle a few days because it is thought the reason it failed last time was because her AF came on day 24 iirc. I think that is what she said. I think the injections are called something like prejesteral, so I will tell her that she should ask for another test 2 or 3 days later {after her AF should have started is that corect?} Thanks for the good wishes.
