Doctor wanted another analysis from him before my next visit, last one was fine, dh says no because sperm count changes and whether this one would be normal or not doesn't matter because no real treatment, he is wearing boxers, taking extra vitamens, no hot baths, etc. afraid of what to tell doctor, he may think were not serious about conceiving! I am charting currently for a luteal phase defect and then getting bloodwork and going from there.

He's right about the variation in sperm count but maybe you could include this in your explaination (based on very close friends experinces).

Sperm count is taken for several reasons. The most obvious is to see what factor he has in your difficulty to concieve. Without knowing his motility and numbers you may find that the level of investigation offered for the "female factor" may be limited. I would be honest with your GP and say that you DP/DH is anxious or sceptical about doing repeat tests on him. At the same time ask for a referral to a fertility specialist.

The specialist may ask for another sperm test anyway ( may as well save you debates with your DH/DP for that) as they do more analysis that a GP would. The results of this will often factored into decions as to whether to have you undergo invasive surgery that involves general anaesthetic. A friend of mine with fibroids had her operation defferrred until her DH/DP had a sperm test based on the fact that " this is a serious operation with risks" and the hospital was not prepared to take that risk if it was not the key factor in their difficulty to concieve. ie what if DP/DH has a low sperm count anyway. It would be interesting to know what the results for DH first test were?

I hope this info helps.
