Help - have I had a miscarriage?

I found out I was pregnant last week, after months of trying. This morning I woke up to find I'd bled a bit during the night. I went to hospital for a scan but because it's so early in the pregnancy, they weren't able to tell me anything. I've got to go back for another scan in 2 weeks. I'm determined to stay positive (but realistic) until then, but I feel in a weird not-quite-pregnant state of limbo now

I would really like to hear other people's thoughts/ advice/ experiences - anything to get me through the next fortnight, basically, as I can't think about anything else. For instance, would a pregnancy test tell me if I'm still pregnant?

hi little star

the same happened to me,i had a few spots of blood and went to the early pregnancy unit i had a scan anf there was a sac on the screen but no heartbeat, and was told to return in 10 days, but it didnt look good ...

my 'sac' is now 2 years old and refusing to go to bed,

i hope your situation turns out the same (((hugs)))

lulumama · 16/01/2007 19:50

depends how many weeks you are littlestar.....under 7 weeks is very hard to see a heartbeat, less than 5 and hard to see anything at all

a lot of women do have bleeds but do carry the pregnancy to term, but obviously a proportion do miscarry

poor you

kittylette · 16/01/2007 19:51

if you had lost your pregnancy then a test would still show positive as the pregnancy hormone hangs around in your body for a while, not sure how long though,

its best to just wait, hard as it is

AitchTwoOh · 16/01/2007 19:55

oh littlestar, it's such a worry isn't it? it could be anything causing the bleeding. could be something bad, could be nothing at all. i know, for example, that i had implantation bleeding and i already knew i was pregnant (tested at 9dpo) and i later had bleeding because i'd had sex with dh so it was probably a bit of cervical erosion .
hoping that everything works out fine for you...

I had bleeding with ds2 just a few days after testing positive, was convinced I was going to miscarry, went to early pregnancy clinic where they did a scan and couldn't find anything told me to come back in two weeks, but they did take my blood to test hcg levels, which was a nightmare in itself as they didn't go up as much as expected.

But however to cut a long story short went for scan after two weeks and had the first look at my ds2, all was fine.

Think it is very common in early pregnancy to have spotting mine was a dark colour like old blood, sorry if TMI. They put it down to an implantation bleed.

Really hope every thing turns out ok. How much bleeding has it been?

littlestar · 16/01/2007 20:10

Not much blood, by the time I woke up it was a bit of dried brown blood like the start of a period. They worked out I'm 6 weeks pregnant but I think it's even less as I know I didn't ovulate until after day 20. It's so worrying as I didn't have anything like this with DS1 - I guess I was lucky.

Like kittylette, they said they could see an egg sac and some yolk, but it's too early for anything else.

mower - has everything been ok for you since, was your bleeding just a one-off?

so how many days pregnant do you think you are?
i know i had implantation bleeding about 10dpo. or at least some bleeding that i assumed was from implantation.
if they've seen a sac then at least it was deffo in the right place, now we just have to make sure that it is safe and warm. fingers crossed for you.

littlestar · 16/01/2007 20:26

Thank you, I appreciate it! I think I got pregnant on or around 23 Dec. What is implantation bleeding?

Any news Littlestar?

greedyforbabies · 18/01/2007 12:16

littlestar - i bled at 4 weeks and went to the epu at 5 weeks for a scan (nasty vaginal scan) and they said ' we cant tell anything, come back next week'. i had a horrible week, with lots more blood and lots of tears , but at my 6 week scan there was my tiny little kidney bean with his heart beating away!
same happened with my dd, but as it had happened before i didnt get scanned and she was/is fine too!
good luck!

littlestar · 18/01/2007 12:57

Thank you, it really helps to hear from people who have been through similar experiences with positive outcomes! I haven't had any more bleeding and I feel absolutely fine. I still feel 'pregnant', although I guess I would anyway because of the hormones. It's really hard not to worry about it all the time - I go from thinking it's ok and the baby is fine, to being certain that I've lost it. I'm trying to keep busy and stay positive and not dwell on it too much, but the time is dragging so slowly...

does it really have to be 2 weeks you wait? that seems a bit harsh making you wait that long. maybe they could scan you again next week and put your mind at rest

littlestar · 18/01/2007 14:08

They said they could do it sooner but it would probably be a waste of time as it's so early on in the pregnancy. To be honest they weren't particularly sympathetic and made me feel a bit like I was making a mountain out of a molehill. I'd rather wait a few days longer and get a definite answer than keep going back, to be honest - it's too stressful.

I love your name, by the way!

Hi, I thought I'd better give an update for everyone who was kind enough to offer their support. I've just got back from the scan and I saw my kidney-bean sized baby and its tiny heartbeat. I'm so relieved! Thanks for everyone who took the time to say kind words, you have really helped me through the last fortnight

great...happy for you x

greedyforbabies · 30/01/2007 15:17

thats brilliant littlestar!
i have reread through this thread and it all seems really ironic that i was telling you how i bled before and it was all fine! got my bfp last week and have had quite a bit of bright red blood and clots since then. not the same as before when i bled in my other pregnancies, so i am not holding out much hope this time (actually one minute i am and the next minute i'm not!)

Mumpbump · 30/01/2007 15:19
Smile
littlestar · 30/01/2007 15:28

I'm sorry to hear that, greedy - I'm keeping everything crossed for you, it's horrible not knowing x
