ovulation confusion

Hello all! I'm new to this so I'm hoping somebody can help :)

I have the ovia app and it said that the week before last I should be ovulating, I did a test with an opk and it came back negative, I couldn't test again that week as I was away and had no tests left.

I bought some more last week and was checking every other day just in case and they all came back negative except from one yesterday which was a very clear positive, however today I did one again and it was negative I didn't do them at the same times but there wasn't that much difference in time really but I'm wondering if this could have effected it?

I see in here women doing OPKs every day and at least twice a day as the surge can be such a sudden onset and then rapidly decline again so if you were doing it every other day and only once a day then it may be very likely you missed your positive window.

Ovia tracks ovulation by counting days unless you put in additional data such as tempting, cervical changes etc. So it will only give you a likely ovulation day unless given further information to make it more accurate. The opk is likely more accurate and writerwannabe is right.

Don't use an OPK first thing, mid afternoon or early evening is best. I used to do two a day to make sure I didn't miss my surge, it can happen really quickly.

Howcome that means I've missed my window then? If it was positive on Sunday wouldn't that mean that I'd be ovulating for the next couple of days? Sorry I'm so confused with it all. Thanks for the replies

The Ovia app is one the best IMO but you have to enter a lot of data for it to be accurate. So internal checks, temperature checks etc

With OPK test strips the best way to start using them depending on your cycle is from day 6 for 20 days - then you can build up a picture and once those two lines match your close to ovulation. You will then ovulate within 24/48 hours

After my miscarriage in November I moved onto a clearblue monitor it was expensive but has been a game changer for me. As it takes out all the guess work. First few months I used all the sticks in the packet (whilst it got used to my cycle) and now I used one box every two months.

Everytime it has said I'm on a high day or peak day I've conceived sadly resulted in chemical pregnancies but this is my body not the monitor.

This month I have checked against the Ovia app and it is out by about five days my fertile days according to the app were ending where the monitor has said they are just starting.

The months were I have entered all the data (whilst I was getting to grips with the monitor) the app was accurate, I stopped tempting doing internal checks and only then the app was off.

Oh and if your peak was Sunday, you needed to be having sex a few days before every other day and then for the days where you say a peak. There are lots of people that say every other day before ovulation peak then every day once it goes high/peak to be on the safe side.

After the egg has been released there is a very tiny window for it to be fertilised so as sperm can live inside you for up to five days before you need to be doing it before the egg is released.
