Hi ladies, I'm now day 11 of cycle ( as in my period had started 11 days ago. It says my fertile window is in 8 days. If I get these ovulation test kits how do they work as I am a complete ttc newbie. My first daughter was a surprise! This will be cycle 2 for us and want to give it a good go this month.
Do I wee on this ovulation stick in 8 days time? I don't fully understand how they work.

Thank you to anyone who can advise

Start doing the OPKs straight away, so that there's no risk that you'll miss your LH surge.

Wee on the stick (or dip in a pot). Do not use first morning urine for this. I think advice is to use urine from between 10am and 4pm but best when you haven't had a wee for around four hours beforehand.

Once you get a positive OPK make a note of which day of your cycle it is, then next month you'll only need to start testing when you get to a couple of days before that day in your cycle.

Just to be clear, if you wait 8 days to start testing you'll be on day 19 of your cycle which will probably be too late. Most women ovulate around day 14.

Thank you so much. And what does a positive look like as I've seen ladies talk about stronger lines etc

Hi, what sort do you have? Internet cheepie or a clear blue digital type one?

Personally if they are Internet cheepies I'd start now. You get a better result at about 6pm, so not like a pregnancy test that's better as the first wee of the day.

So, get a little cup, pee, dip, wait for 10 mins and see what result you get, do this till you get a positive. As its your first month, as you start to see a line, I'd keep them, you will notice them getting darker as you go into your fertile time, and sometimes you think you have a dark line, but when you compare to the next day you realise what a real dark line looks like.

And when you start to get a line start shagging, so you have spearm ready for whe your egg is released.

Does that make sense?

My cycles tend to be 35 days apart which would be right for 8 days ?However last month it was 48 days

A positive has to be darker than the control line.

They're internet cheapies and you can get 100 for about £7.

Then I still bought a pack of Clearblue digital and verified a positive result with one of those 'smily face' tests. But I was OPK-ing to get the right timing for IUI so the stakes were a little higher for me (as with frozen sperm there's only a 24-hour window to conceive, whereas naturally you have longer as non-frozen sperm live for up to 7 days).

I'm going to opk for first time this month but having bought the strips (amazon) I didn't realise what a faff it would be!

Firstly, mine say that you have to wait for sample to get to room temperature before testing -is that important?

Secondly they say between 10am and 8pm is best, my only opprtinity to do it each day will be at about 8pm (taking into account 20min for pee to reach room temperature lol!) is this risky being so near the boundary for testing? I could do it at about 6ish if it were just pee and dip but I don't have 20mins spare then to wait!
