I know that everyone is different but I wasn't having periods before and seeing an infertility consulant when got pregnant with ds (now 7 mo) - how long should I wait for my periods to return before going back to GP if they haven't? feel daft making GP appointment just to ask that and HV was completely honest and say she didn't know

I'd put the figure around 6 months? But I'm not really sure.

wishing1 · 12/01/2007 13:56

odbod, it took 3 months for my periods to return to normal, I spotted lightly for 2 days per month for 3 months and then finally period kicked in at 4 and now at 6 months a full 7 day period. I think they told me 3 months.

I've found the answer! af returned yesterday (3 weeks after stopping bfeeding) very excited as been ttc dc2 since ds was born but now I feel we can 'properly' start trying (and relieved to have first af in 3 years!)

I started regular periods 6 weeks after DD was born, while breast feeding, and continued to breast feed until she was 18 months old (when I cut out the final feed) - but then my periods never did much for reproduction, we got DD with IVF. (I know, still requires periods, but it certainly felt that I was having them for nothing)
I assumed that by that stage I'd have no problems boobwise since it had just been the one feed a day for the two months prior to stopping. But no, I had big sore boobs for a few days. I think there's no such thing as normal though.

I'm still waiting for mine- i was down to only doing night breastfeeds around New Year, then stopped totally. I want mine to get back to normal so i can start planning baby #2 aswell.

Good luck odbod!

hitchcock, you're not a freak, mine came back 6 weeks to the day that DS was born, breastfeeding with period pains is a miserable experience
