Ovarian scan

Hi all. Had an ovarian ultrasound today. The radiographer told me the lining of my womb looked normal in her words 'not too thin or too thick'. She then measured my ovaries but didn't say anything. At the end I asked her if all was ok and she said 'we're not meant to say. Report will go to GP'. Does that sound worrying? I'm thinking that she needs my GP to report but a bit of reassurance if it was normal wouldn't go amiss!

I had a scan on my ovaries and the report had to go to my GP as well. I guess it is a standard procedure as otherwise there is a risk of something contradictory being said or someone being worried because they know something is wrong with them, without having someone there who has all of their medical history in front of them who can refer or prescribe something as appropriate.

I've had two separate scans to check my ovaries etc and each time (two different places) they told me what they could see and gave me results straight away. The first time I had a huge cyst!

That seems incredibly unfair to not say anything, it would make anyone understandably very anxious.

How long do you have to wait to see a doctor?

Hello. The scan says I have ovaries with increased volume with multiple small polycystic appearing cysts so not looking great!
I'm not sure I've got the syndrome through I've heard they're two different things? I'm slim, not got acne or suffer with skin and I have fine velous type body hair not dark or coarse. Reading into every little symptom now.

Hi Meg I have literally gone through the same thing. Scan Monday results today. I have no PCOS symptoms (apart from skin tags near my armpits!) I'm a size 8 fair haired, not hairy & with no acne.

I guess it can happen to anyone!

Hi Rosie. It's a shock and I almost wish I hadn't had the scan now. My GP said that we can't go alone off the scan as ovaries can be enlarged and cysty during ovulation but surely they couldn't mistake this for pcos?. I had blood tests and glucose etc we're normal just waiting on hormonal tests to come back. Are you having blood tests.?

I've had the blood tests & the scan. Doctor said both suggest PCOS. Hmm... What are they suggesting then if the blood tests don't show?

I've read you can have polycystic ovaries but not the syndrome ie not acne, obesity, hirtuism or insulin issues. I think that not having the syndrome is better ie less chance of fertility issues and health issues but don't quote as I might be wrong! My blood glucose level were normal so that's good and one less worry. I have to wait for my hormonal blood results. I had a scan 3 years ago which showed my ovaries were normal so im shocked with the result and didnt expect it. I'm thinking has the pill dampened pcos or has coming off the pill sent my hormones so haywire that cysts are occurring?

Apparently being on the pill can make your ovaries appear smoother than they are. Maybe that has something to do with it. Fx you get everything sorted

How are you feeling about it Rosie? I'm upset but postive and hoping it's not all bad!

I'm going through phases at the moment, one moment I'm fine & am taking it in my stride the next moment it's knocked me for six & I'm an emotional wreck. Desperate for the school holidays to begin - in exhausted! Hopefully will feel more in control of my emotions after a rest.
