Years ago I was told to wait 3 months..but that was 'propre' pill

softmusk · 04/01/2007 20:47

not sure really!! think its to get it out of your system.
Not been on the pill for so long it may have all changed. hopefully someone with more knowledge will be along soon!!!

I'm afraid that's a bit of a "how long is a piece of string" question.

Some women get pg immediately they come off the Pill, for others it can take 6-12 months for the Pill to be totally out of their systems.

You only find out how your body will react by doing it, so I wish you luck with TTC and I hope you conceive fast.

Hugs,
Artoo.
Stopped Pill 19 months ago, still not pg (currently on first IVF cycle due to male factor infertility)

well if it's not Cerazette that you took, I imagine it would be out of your system very quickly indeed, seeing as min-pills other than Cerazette put you at risk of PG if you are more than 3 hours late taking it! Dating etc of a pregnancy will probably be more straightforward if you wait till after your first period before TTC.

Not sure about mini pill as I am on the combined pill. When I ttc ds I stopped taking pill in the December and by end of April I was pg.
I didn't wait for 'proper periods' either, just got down to business.

The only reason that gps suggest you wait, is to make dating the pg easier. If you miss taking one pill you're supposed to be "at risk" of getting pg so it can't take that long to stop working.

OTH, it took me 9 months to ovulate again after stopping the pill (not the mini pill though, and I'd been on it 10 years).

I had been on pill for 10 years and came off it last January as was planning on trying for a baby at start of July after my wedding and wanted to give pill 6 full months to get out of my system - doctor had previously told me to wait 3 months to ensure it got out of my system as he said that some people (not proven) had said that the pill being in your system may increase your risk of having a baby with mental/physical health problems so I decided to give it 6 months before trying to conceive - got pregnant within a fortnight and am now 26 weeks. Havent read any evidence about what the doctor said but decided to be over cautious just in case x

I went off the pill last dec and now i have a 3 months old ds, so for me it was straight away, i guess i was luck, i thought it would take ages as i was on the pill for years and with both my sisters it took them nearly a year, my dh says its all down to his super sperm !!!! good luck
