Is anyone trying to lose weight before getting pregnant?

I'm 31, desperate to ttc number 2 but am overweight (bmi 30.1 at the moment). I have lost 26lbs so far but would ideally lose another 2 - 2.5st before we ttc another.

I'm so broody and cross at myself that I have put myself in this position. I have set myself a goal of start of June, but that is 3 months away and not sure I could lose that much weight in that time. But hopefully I will be a lot closer to a healthy weight by then and will continue to diet until I get a bfp.

I don't want to wait much longer as who knows how long it will take (I had 2mcs before my ds).

Is anyone else in a similar position? It would be nice to talk to someone in the same boat Smile

We are also actively TTC. I've lost around 2 stone since February and am going to the doctor for a slimming world referral tomorrow to keep going until we get our BFP.

That's a great weight loss KP86 well done!

How long have you been ttc for? This is my first cycle and I'd forgotten how impatient I am. This week is dragging!

Are newcomers welcome? Am seriously struggling to stay on course despite the weight being the main reason we aren't ttc right now...feel it's all down to me- so much pressure Sad

notasillysausage · 23/06/2016 20:11

Of course newcomers are welcome! Smile If you don't mind me asking, how much are you hoping to lose before ttc? Are you following any particular diet?

kp86 I forgot to mention, I am doing slimming world too. I've just finished my first 12 week pass and lost 20.5lbs in that time. I am very pleased especially as I had a holiday in the middle of it! I'm going to sign up again for another 12 weeks, I plan to carry on if I get pregnant as it's safe to do and I really don't want to put all the weight back on I've just lost. I am finding it quite easy to follow but have never eaten so many eggs in my life Smile

Thanks! I have probably about 5 stone to lose total, but 1.5 stone to lose to get me back to my weight when I conceived DD2. That's my goal. Have tried just to reduce the crap I eat and started running while back but have fallen off wagon due to holiday, and massive chest infection I have now. I sort of have September as my deadline- we are going away in August to a zika affected country so we can't ttc for month after we're back anyhow. So I have some time but the holidays will be a challenge!

sparkle789 · 23/06/2016 21:02

Hi can I join you?
We are ttc already but I am trying to lose weight.
I lost 2stone last year then maintained for a a few months. I joined Sw in April and have lost 9lbs since then. I could of lost more tbh but I've been finding it very hard to stay focused. I'm hoping this thread might help me.
I still want to lose 1st 9lbs to target.

KP86 · 23/06/2016 21:33

This is probably our third month of TTC, but first month of properly really, truly putting or best effort in. I guess I'll know in a few weeks as I should be ovulating in the next couple of days.

Mind you, my ovulation tests never went really dark this month and the two I did today had no second line at all so I have no idea what's going on.

Like someone else (sorry, hard to check names on phone), I would also intend on continuing SW while pregnant with the aim of not gaining weight throughout the pregnancy, or possibly losing a couple more kg - I have plenty spare.

ppandj · 24/06/2016 15:17

Well done KP86 on your weight loss, that's fantastic! I am so struggling with motivation on the diet side of things. I am pretty motivated to get more activity in but find it really hard not to comfort eat. Do any of you have this emotional issue with food? If you do, what have you done to change it?

Welcome newcomers Smile

PurpleOwl86 · 24/06/2016 20:37

Hi everyone, another newcomer here..

We've been trying to conceive our first for nearly a year now.
Doctor told me from the beginning that it would be hard to get pregnant unless I get to a "normal" bmi, but I liked myself the way I was and decided to try anyway... It didn't work, so I'm now on my way to losing 2.5-3st (lost 11lbs so far).

I'm on a combination of counting calories (1400/day; 1800/day on weekends) and running. I actually quite like running now, did my first 5k this week.

Good luck to us all!

ohmygodyouguys · 24/06/2016 21:10

Me too. I've been doing slimming world and so far lost 1st 2lb, got about another 2st to go though. We're not TTC just yet but hopefully NTNP in the not too distant future. I stopped taking the pill a few weeks ago but would like to shift some more weight before getting pregnant. I'll still follow the plan if and when it does happen though.

lucylou1234 · 24/06/2016 23:23

hey guys,

been ttc since december with no luck as yet. In that time i know ive needed to lose weight but had difficulty in getting into the right frame of mind - BMI currently sitting at 34.4 :(

however with the prospect of possibly going to visit a doctor this december seems to be the kick ive needed to get into the right frame of mind and determination. lost 7lbs so far:) long way to go but really need to do this !!!!

notasillysausage · 25/06/2016 08:20

Hi, welcome to all the new comers! I had a bad day yesterday, it's the first time my will power broke since I have been doing sw (12 weeks) apart from a prearranged holiday anyway. I think because my af started I was disappointed, that coupled with the odd atmosphere everywhere yesterday led to a takeaway Sad But, I have drawn a line and woken up with a more positive attitude. I have 1.5stone to go until I am in a healthy bmi. I'm going to get another 12 week plan at sw next week and hopefully most of it will have gone by then. I'm still going to carry on ttc but I need to stop obsessing or I will drive myself mad!

Has anyone got children already? I have one DS who is 3. The main thing I struggle with and don't really try hard with is exercise. I just don't know how people find the energy and time to fit it in Confused

OP posts:
ppandj · 25/06/2016 15:29

Sausage I have a 14mo DS and I also struggle with fitting exercise in. I just try to walk lots! I agree completely my motivation yesterday was rubbish. I'm at work tonight so that always stops me boredom eating at least :).

lucylou1234 · 25/06/2016 20:46

ive not got any children yet - ttc no1 and starting to feel like it wont happen :( currently following the scottish slimmers plan which ive had success with previously :)

honestly got my head in the frame of mind that i will be going to visit the gp come december so its my motivation which seems to be working. weighing and checking everything to keep my self motivated also taking aloe vera gel shots which seem to be keeping my energy levels up :)

ppandj · 26/06/2016 12:57

Lucylou it is early days yet in terms of ttc, I think. Keep positive and be proud that you are taking action! I'm sure the rest will follow Smile

lucylou1234 · 28/06/2016 15:49

yeah i know :)

have it in my head i want to lose 4 stone by december. that will take my BMI to a healthier 24.4 :) started back at the gym this week also. just easing my self into it.

obviously if i conceive within that time frame - which would be great it would then more be about healthy eating rather than losing weight :)

sparkle789 · 29/06/2016 10:34

I've got a 9yo and a 3yo. I don't really have time to exercise unless I do in the evening but I never want to then, I find it easier if I can exercise first thing.

I've fallen of the Sw wagon!
Life is getting in the way and I'm stress eating, then feeling down because I've eaten crap food and it really affects my mood.
I'm trying to break the habit and stop comfort eating but it's hard.

BorpBorpBorp · 29/06/2016 17:10

Hello everybody. I'm 26 and want to get my BMI down from 28 to 25 or under (which for me means losing a stone or more) before ttc #1 with IUI. I have lost about 10lb in the last six months without concerted effort, but plateaued a few months ago and have crept up by 2lb again. I've recently started running 20 mins a day Mon-Fri - I love it and would like to do longer but the only time I get for exercise is lunchtimes, and I only get 30 mins for lunch. I haven't lost any weight since starting running, but I feel fitter and I think I've put on muscle. My meals are usually pretty healthy, but my big problem is that I chomp on junk food to get through the day at my soul-crushingly boring desk job.

I have PCOS and irregular periods, and I do have a bit of fear about the process of fertility testing, treatments and potential disappointment, which is holding me back from really trying to lose weight. It's irrational because I know that putting it off will make it worse, but I'm a chronic putter-offer and procrastinator. I have just started temping and charting too.

sparkle789 · 03/07/2016 19:39

How are you all doing?
I somehow managed to lose 1lb this week, a bloody miracle!

I'm not going to Sw anymore, I end up more stressed because I feel like I'm failing. So I'm going to try healthier eating, no takeaways and smaller portions from tomorrow. Tonight I'm going to enjoy a takeaway pizza :)

KP86 · 16/07/2016 17:50

How's everyone going here? I'm almost finished week three of slimming world and am around 5kg down in total, which makes me 15kg since starting LCHF back in Feb. Pretty pleased with that!

Seems to be a very long cycle this month, already at 6 weeks (normal is 5) with no sign of AF, besides some strange sticky brown spotting for a few days around the three week mark, which was immediately after when I would have expected ovulation. Lots (and lots and lots) of negative tests, too.

I'm hoping the old adage comes true that the cycle after a long one you're especially fertile. Fingers crossed!
