Please help me work out when to DTD

I have a 30ish day cycle and normally ovulate around CD16. I am on CD14 and just got a positive on an opk. And I have had watery CM since yesterday. Does that mean I am ovulating today or tomorrow? Sorry if this gets asked all the time.

We DTD on CD12 but not CD13 - should we have? Definitely going to DTD tonight! Already texted my DH to suggest he comes home from work early.

So, should we do CD14, 15 and 16? Or every other day, i.e. CD14 and 16?

Thank you!

Have you been using the OPK every day?

Ovulation occurs within 24 hours once you get a positive on an OPK. The egg then lives for up to 12-24 hours. So once you see a positive OPK, you have a maximum of 48 hours in which the egg could be fertilised.

Sperm can live for up to 5-7 days so if you ovulate say on day 15, sperm from DTD from day 8-10 onwards until day 16 could possibly fertilise the egg.

Thank you!

I haven't been using the OPK every day. I started to on CD11 and it was negative. And then had a stressful few days and forgot to test. Started testing again on CD14 (today) and it was positive.

I think I will DTD tonight and 2 days after that just to make sure.

The best advice I can give is try not to stress about when to do the deed. I know it's obviously very important but it can become very consuming and stressful if you're sort of planning the intercourse. I definitely kept note of my fertile period was and DTD multiple times in the window but I also kept up my normal sex life and didn't stress if I didn't do it on many fertile days after the first few months of TTC and I found the month I was more relaxed I conceived! It was also more enjoyable for me and my partner as we were DTD because we wanted each other not just for a baby which is always good. Have sex as often as possible, preferably every other day around your fertile period but if you don't, don't worry or force it because I personally found stress didn't help me (unfortunately as stress is the main thing you feel when TTC!!!)

Good luck! X

I would go every other day, so cd 14 and 16.

shopaholic85 · 18/02/2016 12:45

Thanks both. I wish I could take a more relaxed approach. Luckily, DH and I have a very good sex life so it never feels like a chore.

So far we have DTD on CD12, CD14, CD15. I might give tonight a miss if we don't fancy it. The only time I got pg (ended in a mc), we only DTD once during my fertile window!

You are most likely to get pregnant from sex the day before ovulation. Whilst the stats quoted about sperm living 5 days are true, the stats show the likelihood of getting pregnant from sex 3 or more days before ovulation are significantly lower.
Sex every day increases your chances. If I were you I'd be aiming for sex for the next 3 days

Good luck shopaholic!

Thank you. I will report back in 2 weeks!
