Anyone able to advise on conception/periods after cerazette?

Hi, I haven't been on here since my ds1 (9) and ds2(7) were babies. I am now very happily re-married and dh and I decided to try for our first baby together. I came off cerazette (been on it years) 31st December 2015 so just over 3 weeks ago. I had horrendous period pains for about a week that finished last weekend, so bad I was bent double, no sign of any period. Friday night (tmi, sorry) I begun having alight bloody discharge, when going to the toilet. I thought ok so I'm not pregnant and this is the first period for years and was disappointed but relieved my body was doing what it was supposed to. However yesterday there was still no red blood, just pink sort of slimy mucous (sorry!) not a lot on a pad. Today it is similar. After ds1 I had one period and was pregnant, with ds1 no bleeding at all and was pregnant straight away. I don't know if this is a period or possibly implantation bleeding (although doubtful as had BFN yesterday) or withdrawal bleed?? I don't know if I should count Friday as 1st day of period or even if it is a period? I know any doctor will just say 'be patient' but I don't know what's going on! Any advice very welcome!

Hi amy, I tested yesterday and it was negative and Iv read conflicting things. I have no idea if or when I have ovulated so one place will say I would have a positive test by now, yet another place says a positive won't show until at least 6 days later (if there is implantation bleed). There is hardly anything there so I'm confused as to if this is a period or not. If it is I don't know when to count from?

Hi, I've come off cerazette twice now. Both times it took around 6 weeks before I had a proper period and during those weeks I had a combination of cramps, spotting, pms... Both times I wondered what was going on and took pregnancy tests (negative) before finally getting a proper period.

With dc1 I conceived during the next cycle. With dc2 I had one more period and conceived the cycle after.

Took me about three months to settle down then conceived first "normal" cycle.

Thanks so much for replying. There hasn't been any actual blood, so I guess this isn't a proper period just spotting?! As I said, fell pregnant straight away first 2 times and only since googling this time round I realise so many people had problems conceiving after cerazette.

Cerazette really messed me up. Took 7 months for AF to sort itself out - cycles were all 45+ days and had horrendous side effects after stopping it. But am now pregnant, so bear with it.

Sophie did you have any small bleeds/spotting between the 45 days? Did you use opk? I suppose j better use them as have no idea what's happening!

No bleeds. Longest cycle was 51 days. But the one I conceived on was going to be much shorter, more like 35 days. I thought I was pregnant so often with symptoms. Yes, just the cheapy sticks - and started tracking everything in an app.

I have some so I think I will start the opk's. Does this sound like just spotting? Now being Monday and it is still either pink or brown

My girlfriend has been on the pill for over a year and we have been trying to have a baby for the past 6 month and it dosent seen to be happening dose anyone have any ideas why thanks for readin

Well she was taken it for a year then stoped and we been trying for a baby for the past 6 month and she keeps having her period. Sorry for the horrible details I no you don't want to no that. Perplerainbow

Hi OP, i had similar coming off cerazette (was only on it for 3 months).

short cycles (23 days) and two weeks of brown mucus at the start. Over about 8 months there was a gradual improvement, less brown spotting, more 'proper' period and a slightly lengthening cycle. But it didn't sort itself out on its own.

My GP was useless, kept fobbing me off with 'oh well cycles are variable' and 'oh yes you can get pregnant like this' and then 'you're not old enough for fertility treatment'

WHereas i knew my normal cycle is 27 days, 6 days period, 1 day spotting before. has been all my adult life, on and off plenty of other pill brands.

So i went to see a private gyneacologist. She treated me with ovitrelle and progesterone and it worked second cycle (though she also denied it would be the creosote - doctors love their pharmacutecals)

Dougal, do you know if you were ovulating in that time? Now Tuesday and it's still the same, no blood at all.

Liam I think 6 months is quite normal to conceive but it is definitely worth finding out when your girlfriend is ovulating so you can time your attempts. There is a really useful website called fertility friend here

Op I never checked if I was ovulating when I first came off cerazette. From the other posts here it sounds like I was lucky that these symptoms didn't last for long in my case. I do think being on any contraceptive pill can hide things like an irregular cycle which might indicate a problem. How old are you? If you are mid 30s or older I think it is better to get checked out by a Dr sooner rather than later, to give you as much time as possible to get it sorted.

I'm 34 snozzberry so I was in my mid 20's when I fell with both my ds's. I think if I went to my gp they just tell me to wait.

I had no bleeds what so ever whilst on cerazette, no spotting nothing and it really suited me (couldn't go on the combined pill) and I had a break from it few years back when I was on my own and my cycles were on the shorter side, about 26 days? I'm presuming that the pill can mess that up anywAy when you come off it even if it was fine before? Whilst I was off it I had couple of bad smears, and pre cancerous cells and had the leetz. I have spoken to a midwife and she said this won't be a problem.

I was 34 when I had dc1, it's not old, but it's old enough that I would want to know about any problems asap so there is time to treat them iyswim. I was on it for 5 years the first time and one year the second time. It was great for me and I may go back on it again when my baby is older and I have a sex life

As I only came off it last month I think the gp would laugh me out of the surgery at the moment though snozzberry surely? I do feel 'old' starting again now my ds are growing up Sad. I'd like to be able to do this app business following and working out ovulation etc but as there is no actual period I can't can I? Today there is more or less nothing there. So I'm not sure if I count it as a period or not.

I think I would give it a bit longer but if it got to say six months and your cycle hasn't sorted itself out then I would go to the docs.

That fertility friend app uses other ways of tracking your cycle eg. Your cervical fluids and body temperature, so it might give you an idea of whether and when you ovulate. I did it when I was ttc dc2 and found it fascinating, I'm a bit of a control freak and liked being able to time our attempts to conceive even though we weren't struggling (others may find it a bit unromantic!)

I think something was supposed to happen to your body temperature on the first day of your period, so it would help you tell whether your bleeds are spotting or true periods.

Yes, just wait a bit purple. As I said, I had no real periods for three months but did have a lot of ovary pain and some horrid bloating and tender breasts which I believe is ovulation re-starting (some women get ov pain, i didn't before cerazette but did after).

DTD on the first ov pain day after the first proper period and conceived DS.

Iv had loads of cramps none of which particularly indicate ov pain to me and my boobs, particularly the left for some reason do keep getting sore. I will have to start keeping eye what's going on down there then. I don't find it 'unromantic' timing when you DTD, I just find it hard getting in the mood to DTD when I don't necessarily want to, or wouldn't chose to if you get what I mean?
