wondering if anyone can help, I came off my pill which i was on for four years, as my partner and myself would like to start a family, I beleive the first period after you come off the pill is a fake period?? but i havent had that period which should of been three weeks ago, i have done a early response test which has come up negative, im just wondering if anyone else has been in the same situation and how long their period took to come on after coming off the contraceptive pill??

Thanks

I can relate to this situation.

Can you remember what your periods were like prior to taking the pill?. If they were irregular back then the chances are they will revert back to being irregular. BTW being on the pill has not caused this at all, this may be possibly due to underlying hormonal imbalances that the pill has served to mask.

Would suggest you have a blood test done to see what your hormone levels are like. If you do get such a test done ensure that the levels of LH (luteinising hormone) and FSH (follicle stimulation hormone) are compared against each other. These should be the same, if they are not then this should be investigated further.

I would test again.

amynnixmum · 12/12/2006 12:16

Both my cousin and my sister got pregnant the first month after they came off the pill

sparklytreeangel · 12/12/2006 12:18

I'm not much help as I had the fake on as expected and then went to have 28 - 32 day cycles.

I know it can take a while for the body to get back in sink. I reckon just have fun and enjoy yourself and if it takes a while maybe see if the doctor can offer any useful advice.

It is hard without a baseline as OV tests can be expensive.

Good luck, if there's anything I've learned though this its that patience is vital.

hi lucy, hows work today?

LUCYMARIE · 12/12/2006 12:33

Thanks, I can remember my periods back then being okay and regular, my bodys probably trying to get back to normal, i think i will just carry on having fun! and if still no period in a few weeks time make a trip to the doctors and see what she says

Did you finish the packet of pills? The reason I ask is a few years ago I stopped taking my pill halfway through the packet and it took ages to have a period. I was convinced I was pg and even went to the doctors for a test. I stopped taking the pill again in May (after a full packet) and my cycles were 29-32 days but have now returned to 28 days.

lornaloo · 12/12/2006 13:52

Hi luce,
I'm at my mums now baking. Are you going to try another test? I'd say do one next week and if it's still a negative then go to your gp.

BoJingles · 12/12/2006 14:06

I was about 4 days late the first month after stopping the pill. But I have been very late if I've just randomly stopped it half way through the cycle. If you take the pill up to your period and then stop, yes this will be a fake period as your body still thinks its on the pill, but after this time you can get pregnant if you've not started the pill after your 7 day break. They tell you not to pregnant straight away only because they cannot work your dates out accurately. I've also heard you can be very fertile at this time too - so you never know

greedyformincepies · 12/12/2006 14:29

i didnt have a period for 3 months when i came off the pill, so i guess technically i was 2 months late!!! did loads of tests and of course they were all negative. sometimes it just takes your body ages to get back to normal. i have come off the pil 3 times to try and concieve and twice it has taken at least 3 months to have a period. think of all the money you could save on tampax!

LUCYMARIE · 12/12/2006 14:33

i took all pills from my femodene pack, then there is a break for 7days which normally half way through that break i would have my period

LUCYMARIE · 12/12/2006 14:34

babylove123 · 12/12/2006 22:16

Hi,

I came off the mini pill mid may this yr and it took till July to get a period, after that i was back to my clockwork cycle (other than now!) so i shouldnt worry too much.... keep an eye and speak to you're doc if you're worried

LUCYMARIE · 13/12/2006 15:32

yeah im thinking now it will just take a while to get back to normal, is annoying though i just want a bloody period!!

OP posts:
babylove123 · 13/12/2006 16:37

haha i bet thats a phrase you'd never thought you'd say!!!! I know how you feel though, i was so worried i'd messed my body up. Gotta admit, even if we werent trying, i wouldnt wanna go back on to contraception again as it really didnt agree with me.

LUCYMARIE · 14/12/2006 10:16

yep i worry that ive messed my body up now by coming off it, but i took all my pills till the end of the pack, so i need to wait till my period, when it comes do you think this will be my fake period as i didnt have this after i came off the pill or back to a normal one??

OP posts:
babylove123 · 14/12/2006 16:52

To be honest, its going to be a wait and see. My 1st was quite light (im usually heavy) and it lasted around 3 days (short for me). Then had mine exactly 30 days later, back to 5 days and heavy and back to normal. Had a 3 days late 1 last month but think thats coz we're trying. Try not to worry about it, it is completely normal for your body to adjust, its taken 18 months for me to recover from depo....

LUCYMARIE · 18/12/2006 10:11
