Cyst and TTC

DH are about to start TTC no.2 so I had my copper coil taken out yesterday. After removal my GP examined my womb and said she could feel a cyst. She said she wasn't worried, but would request an urgent scan as we were TTC. She said to delay actively starting until I'd been scanned. I asked what it could be and she wouldn't go into it, just said it may be the follicle left over if I'd ov'd.

I chart on FF and don't have an obsession date yet, but in the past I've ov'd as late as day 19 which is around now. I'm keen to get started - desperate even! But would I be silly to have unprotected sex before I'm scanned?

This really is your judgement call hon. I don't think people would suggest you go against a specialist. They are likely just being cautious but rightly so! They want to check you are ok first and foremost.

So not to sound all doom and gloom. I was referred to epu this week due to what I felt as agonising pain on my left side. Had a scan and it turns out it is a cyst on my ovary. I asked if I should be concerned and the nurse said it was from where I had ovulated. I don't know why it started causing pain but I guess this could potentially happen to women who are ttc and not aware of cysts etc.

I went for a scan this week as I am still spotting on and off since miscarrying in October. They said I had a cyst which could be part of my normal cycle. It wasn't big enough to cause concern. What is strange is that it is on the same side as where I have been feeling twinges around when I conceived, when I was pregnant, during miscarriage and each time before bouts of spotting. Our bodies are a total mystery!

Thanks both. Sorry to hear about your miscarriage Iris. I have a scan booked for Tuesday so not too long to wait, and FF is telling me I ov'd on the 23rd so we're out for this month anyway.

Shit. As of this morning, FF has changed my ov date to 25th Nov which is when we had sex. So now I'm terrified I might be pg, with a tiny part of me hoping I am. Oh goodness. I was supposed to be not obsessing...

Oh dear! I wouldn't worry though, I dont think cysts affect pregnancy (see the link I posted above), they're only a problem if they get too big. My best friend had cysts when she was pregnant, they were quite painful so she went for a scan but everything was fine. She still has the cysts, and a healthy little boy!

When they found my cyst they weren't bothered, they said once I had completed the course of tablets they prescribed me I could start TTC straight away (at last!)

I suspect in your case that they just want to be absolutely sure, and the only way they can check how big your cyst is is to scan you.

Like Iris said, and the reason why I shared my story. I wouldn't have even known I had a cyst on my ovary if I didn't have a scan. The nurse was not concerned and baby is fine. Easy said then done but try not to worry.

Thanks Iris. Scan was fine, sonographer said all was ok and couldn't see anything to worry about but then got a call from my GP receptionist yesterday to say results had come back as 'borderline' so I need to go in or have a telephone appt.

Of course I googled and all results read as ovarian cancer so I had an awful panic last night. This is turning into a massive saga! Thanks for thinking of me X

Oh no what a nightmare! Did you have any other tests as well as the scan that they could be referring to? Doctors' receptionists can be really clueless sometimes. I had a call from my surgery after a smear once, saying that I needed to ring the doctor cos they'd 'found something' - turned out I just needed some antibiotics.

Hopefully it'll be nothing to worry about. Have you got a date for your appointment yet? I hope you don't have to wait and worry for too long. And then you can get cracking TTC!

Oh goodness Iris! It was just the scan - spoke to GP and she said it was possibly a hemorrhagic cyst, so nothing to worry about. The sonographer didn't even recommend a follow up appt, but GP suggested I go back in so she can have a feel.
Period just finished so we can get cracking as of now! Most fertile period is Friday - when DH is at the other end of the country for his work Christmas party!

Hello hello Celen! Actually I was reading my chart wrong - most fertile day is next Monday CD14, apparently. Although last few cycles I've ov'd CD12 or CD19... Who knows! Gonna aim for DTD every other day and I have some OPKs to see if I can catch THE day.
Clever old FF has found my charts from when I got pg last time - so weird looking at my old charts.
