Conceiving a Girl

Hello all! I have a gorgeous son who is 10 months old now and we're talking about trying for number 2. We'd be very happy with another boy but would ideally like a girl as this will be our last baby. Anyone know any old wives tales of things that can influence this? Particularly if it has worked for you!

Well, we've never tried this (and we have two boys..!) but I think it's best to try to conceive before ovulation, as girl sperm are slower swimmers but live longer and boy sperm swim faster but die quicker. So if you have sex 1 - 3 days before you ovulate (if you've been tracking your temperature and all that you'll hopefully know when this is), I think you'll stand a better chance of having a girl.

Isn't temperature supposed to make a difference (old wives tale I've heard!). Apparently keeping your dh's 'bits' at a cooler temp is more likely to produce a boy?? Can also remember Gordon Ramsay talking about how chefs have more girls! (Something to do with how close their bits get to the ovens!)

Don't know how true this is, but dh is a baker and we have a girl, so I'm considering getting him a job in a freezer when we try for no.2 which we'd like to be a boy!!

Well we tried all the old wives tales for a boy both times and we have a girl aged 2 and another girl due in jan!!

this book is great! here

timing as dotty says is the main one and has worked for my friends who have really given it a go. for a girl, have sex before you ovulate - then the sperm have to hang around for the egg, and girl sperms are hardier than boy ones.
diet can also influence (hence why people often have the same sex children as they eat the same foods). Victoria Beckham's been on about eating lemons for a girl hasn't she?
plus temperature for men as santasbaby says

Hi
This is a great book to read, 'Choose the sex of your baby - the natural way' by Hazel Chesterman-Phillips. It explains the best way to conceive either sex. It worked for us, and a few others I know!

Hey thanks for all your tips! I'll check out that bookand also try working out when I'm ovulating... Does your temp go up or down when you ovulate and by how much?

I thought I was an expert on this, have posted on many previous threads. But I started a thread last month about conception when having sex 7 days before ovulation, as it was I wasn't pregnant then, but lots of the answers I got were from mums on here who had had sex maybe 5 or 3 days before and still had boys. So blew my theory out of the water, so to speak!!
The other way of thinking, which has been used for a long time, is the acidity/alkalinity of the women when having sex, ie. if she has had an orgasm can apparently affect sperm much greater.

So for a boy you should orgasm before the man, and for a girl you must not orgasm at all.

I have been one stage further for dd1, and douched with a vinegar solution before hand.... you would be amazed that any sperm could live through that.

Last pregnacy was more tricky as we had boy/girl twins... can't explain except maybe girl was conceived on day 9 and boy on day 15.

Have never changed my diet for any of mine, think it is a complete waste of time, and wish I could help Victoria Beckham out, all that money and still she is not getting the right info!!!

We been trying for 6m, still no luck. ~I feel desperate
Good luck,
