How long did it take you to conceive after taking the Pill? I'm ttc later this year.

I think it really depends on the person. I had been taking the pill for almost 6 years and between working 2 jobs and finals at school, I missed 4 days without realizing it. I now have a 9 month old.

I conceived within 2mths after stopping the pill. With the injection it was 6mths before my periods came back and then another few before i concieved.

Don't assume there is any waiting period at all. There are Mumsnetters who conceived after accidentally missing just one or two!

Oh, like colinsmummy! Sorry didn't see your post. Took me about three or four months, but then I was 37.

With second i became pregnant straight away after stopping the pill. Am a bit concerned at moment as i missed one pill (Mini pill) this month and period is two days late - anything similar happened to anyone??

i'm 27 and been on it since '99 with a years break in the middle.
Feel like the old clock is ticking!! ;-)

i read that u need to have a 2 month break between Stopping the Pill, and actively trying to ttc. Something about the minerals in your body etc getting back to normal.
Would everyone agree with that?

We decided to try, I stopped taking the pill and conceived two weeks later! We were a bit shocked.
I have other friends who have taken up to about a year though. I think it just depends on what your cycle was like before you took the pill etc

My general practitioner told me to wait 1 month after stopping before trying to concieve. (I told him I wasn't planning on having children so that wasn't a problem. Oops I brought that up to my ob/gyn when I found I was pregnant, because not only hadn't I stopped, but I had started another pack. She said that since I was on a low-dose pill that it wouldn't be a problem. (And it wasn't, my son was very healthy.) She said that the body naturally has its own spikes in hormones, and that taking the pill actually regulated those spikes. However, I think that most drs will say to wait at least one month before trying to concieve.

With my ds, (now nearly 3) i stopped 3 months before starting ttc. I temp charted the first month because I wanted to see if I was ovulating, but that first month there it was bang on day 14, so I didn't bother after that. We're going to start trying for no.2 next month, and this time I just stopped this month so I'll have one pill-free month. I think doctors mainly like you to have a break so you've had one 'natural' period so its easier to date the pregnancy, but with scans etc that doesn't really matter. I wasn;t going to stop this time until next month, but it felt weird taking hte pill when I knew I was ttc in a months time!

aloha · 17/05/2004 21:21

There is no health reason to wait between stopping the pill and ttc. It is purely to date the pregnancy. The pill does not cause problems for foetuses.

I was 28, had taken Marvelon for 10 years and it took 9 months to conceive.

Never went back on pill after dd. Took about 9 minutes to conceive ds! Now I have a 20 month age gap instaed of the over 2 years one I was expecting.
