How long can sperm live inside you before conception?
I've read conflicting info from 2 days to 5 days.
Just wondering, as dp & I did a bit of bd 3 days before I was expecting to ovulate, and was wondering if it was possible for me to conceive.

Think they can live inside you for up to 5 days

Up to 5 days if you are in your most fertile period of the month (just before ov)

Ooooh, fingers crossed, I might get a bfp around Christmas time

Hi Eaglebird - 3 days before OV stands you in with a great chance. I read last night that sperm has been known to survive 7 days but 5 days is the norm if you're fertile at the time. Fingers crossed.

I've been searching for information on fertility, infertility, sperm, egg and all that jazz, on the web for some time, and most of the websites say that sperm can live 3-5 days (not very good odds for 5 days they say), sperm can live for 7 days very very rare though and at that, it's not ever been proven yet that sperm that old can/has ever managed to fertilizes an egg! Sperm normally only last 3 days, can sometimes last 5 days, if you have very good CM. Hope this helps! And I hope you get your BFP soon!

AF due 20th Dec, so I'll let you know what happens.
Had m/c in October, so my cycle may still be a little bit haywire.
Doc said my first AF after the m/c could arrive any time from 4 to 6 weeks afterwards. It came 33 days after the m/c, and I always had a 28 day cycle before the m/c, so maybe my cycle's not so haywire, all things considered.
Anyhow, fingers crossed. A bfp for Xmas would be fab, best present ever.

I'm hoping for a bfp around christmas too, My AF is due on xmas day so no doubt if it shows up i will be a bit gutted. Whens the best time to test or is it just best to wait and see if AF arrives.

I probably sound really impatient cause this is just my second cycle while ttc but its taking over my life and all im doing is thinking about that BFP!!!! My aim for the next few weeks is to stop thinking about it, MMMMMM i doubt it will work but i will give it a shot.

With my third child we bd'd 4 days before ov and I got prego after trying for about 7 months. I would say you have a good chance. Af for me is due Christmas eve, what a horrible christmas present, hope it doesn't come! Waiting until af does not arrive is the best time, at least one day late I would say. I was all anxious and obsessed to test when I first started trying and now going on month 6 it's fading but still there in a sad way. Hope we all get bfp's for christmas!!

Eaglebird - dd2 was conceived when we had sex 3 days before I ovulated.

According to the theory, if you do conceive, it's more likely to be a girl as the female sperm tend to live longer than the male.

i had sex on day of ovulation first time round and had a son and second time round i had sex 3 days before and it was a girl and although i planned it this way i dont know whether it was fluke or not but girls sperm last longer

I had sex 3 times n day of ov, 3 boys. Want to test for a girl but Dh running scared LOL!
