No period but trying for a baby

Hi,

I recently got married (25th Oct) and since then my husband and I have been trying to have a baby. We've been together 8 years and felt for us the time to start our family was once we were married. However, I am prettified it might not happen for us as I haven't had a period for about 6 months now.

I went to see the doctor about it yesterday and he wasn't very helpful. I would just like to hear of anyone's experiences with no period for such a long time when all months before that you were regular.

Thank you MrsNuthouse. I'm 28, turn 29 in March. I was advised by the doctor to start taking the pregnacare folic acid vitamins so I've just bought some today. The doctor said they weren't test me unless we've been trying for a year with no success. I'm just more worried about the lack of period for such a long time hindering my chances. Congrats on your own success in getting pregnant :)

I would still go back to doctors and explain the lack of periods thing again; if you haven't got them then it seems you are not ovulating so surely it's pointless to keep trying for a year. I'd understand them telling you that if you had regular periods as it just takes longer for some people but not having your periods is obviously making it more difficult. It could be something like pcos or then again like with me "just one of those things" .
And read about Vitex, it might help, it's a herbal product and it can be bought from Holland & Barret. It was the one thing in the end that helped my periods get normal, although I had to take it for few months before it started to work.
And most of all try not to worry! I went through a whole year of not having periods for 4 months and then starting again and then no periods again, frustrating I know but I still managed to get pregnant eventually and now at 37 I'm expecting our second one!

If I were you I would go back and leave out the TTC bit- they should be doing investigations into why you're not having a period, TTC or not! I have found that as soon as you mention TTC there is always some excuse about why they should run tests.

Sorry, that should say why they shouldn't run tests!
