Interpreting Saliva Microscope Results..?

Hi there,

I've just bought one of these, and am on CD6. I normally OV ~CD14.

I tried using the microscope this morning, waited the 20 minutes or so, and saw there was no ferning (as expected... I thought it was too early really). However, earlier this evening I had another look and the lens was full of ferning.

Is that normal..? Can anyone tell me whether or not the results are invalid because I read them hours later? I don't really understand the mechanics behind ferning/not ferning and I'm a bit worried about causing my TCOYF software to prematurely predict OV by logging these results.

Thanks in advance.

I was always told by the helpline of one of these microscope companies that the only reliable result is the first thing in the morning one before you eat or drink. Apparantly eating and drinking will give a misleading result. Before I knew this I would very often get no fern in the morning and then fern laterin the day. Hth.

Thanks... I'm going to try again today and discount yesterday's results.

Hi I have one of these, the first month of using it I got my BFP, Mine say's that you cant eat, drink or blush your teeth for 3 hours before using other wise you get a false reading! Good luck!

I got better results late morning early afternoon! How I used mine was, got up had breakfast, had a drink and blushed my teeth, then waited the for 3 hour thing, than used the saliva microscope and noted the results! Hope this helps!

Thanks for that CMWB! Did you find that the ferning was visible after the 15-20 minutes that it says in the instructions? Yesterday after 20 mins - no ferning at all (but the lens still looked wet to me)... hours later, the SAME saliva left on the lens had ferned massively.

I just don't know whether that should count. I sort of got the impression that the saliva hadn't dried after 20 minutes but when I looked at it later, it had. I did the same thing last night (having not drunk etc for 2 hours) - put a new sample on the lens, left for 20 minutes and saw nothing. Had another look a couple of hours later and there was slight ferning visible.

Mine says five mins! How much are you putting on the lens? You need to put a very very (very) small amount on the lens small enough so that the lens dry in the time stated! I slid one of my fingers along the under side of my tongue than wipe that finger over the lens that's it! Hope this helps! Also have you got the pictures to compare it to?
