BBT newbie needing help

I need a little bit of help with bbt tracking because I keep missing my 21 day progesterone as my cycle is all over the place, so I need this really to give me an idea.

This image was from last months cycle, I'm worried it looks like I didn't ovulate. At the time CD23 I thought was my ov day but isn't there suppose to be a three day rise? Cause CD25 just dips a bit.

Does it look like I am ovulating? Because I am a little worried I'm not looking at that. I did think looking at it again I might of got it wrong and it was CD27 as there is a climb.

Thanks for any input x

Sorry they mixed up my images but the green ones first, shame I can't edit my post.

Honestly I would like to see start if chart as I would say you are ovulating much earlier... Cd17! Which app are you using?

LilyWhite2 · 21/10/2015 19:43

Oh I'd ignore CD17 as I started then it was my first try but this next cycle I am going to start the week before as I'm cycle day 4 now. I am using Glow I couldn't get on with Fertility friend xx

OP posts:
loopylou1984 · 21/10/2015 19:44

Agreed, I'd like to see the beginning. There's nothing in the chart pictures that would indicate ovulation, but if all the temps prior to cd17 were that low then 100% you ovd on cd17! Xx

loopylou1984 · 21/10/2015 19:45

Mind you, are you on cd37 now? If so ovulation at cd17 would be impossible. Xx

honeysucklejasmine · 21/10/2015 19:49

In that case temp everyday this month. Most people ov about hfwat through their cycle so pay particular attention to days 14-28. Remember, same time every day, minimal movement. If you are a mouth breather you may get more reliable results by taking your temp vaginally.

When you're done, pop over go the Just Shagging thread in the conception forum and we'll give you a hand with it. Of course, you're very welcome to pop over now to keep you entertained during the wait! That way we can help you confirm ovulation as soon as it happens. Smile

LilyWhite2 · 21/10/2015 19:51

I only got my thermometer when I started the chart so I can't get a good enough picture but this is the start.

I am cycle day 4 now x

Sammy there's no maximum length for an LP, its perfectly possible to ov 20 days before period arrives. Or am I missing something?

LilyWhite2 · 21/10/2015 20:01

I will do, I'm struggling with this now as my cycles vary from 32 to 38 days and I keep missing my test day so I really need to get this sorted so I can get referred to a fertility clinic.

I have been doing opks but they come up light which are negatives (I do drink a lot). So any help is appreciated as it's stressing me out a little now x

Reading back, so you don't think I managed to ovulate? Im guessing I need to do a fuIl month to tell.

I really thought I did as I got ovulation pains on CD23 and ewcm up until that point when it finished CD25.

OP posts:
loopylou1984 · 21/10/2015 20:47

I don't think an LP of 20+ days is likely, I googled it and got the attached.
I've been around on these forums a while (sadly) and I have never heard of anyone with an LP of more than 14/15 days based on temping. I'm sure there are odd people that it's happened to, but def not the norm.

Temping is the only way to know for sure if you have ovulated. Pains, ewcm, even positive ov tests can be false, caused by your body attempting ovulation, but not managing it. I think you need a full months chart before you can be sure, but based on your temps I don't think you have ovulated.

You need to see a sustained rise of at least .3 degrees C to confirm ov - most apps use the 3 over 6 rule, so three .3 higher temps than at least 6 of the previous ones.

Hope this helps Xx

Oh I totally agree, I don't think it would of been CD17. I've been pregnant before (miscarried) but it generally follows the chart fertility pattern on the app.

I'm going to start tomorrow see if that is any better this month and i got fertility friend as I don't think this is a good chart to go off.

It's concerning though as I'm only 28 and my oestrogen results came back a little high this month.

I know you generally need a .3 but im wondering if it was CD25 (Temps were 36, 36.2 and 36.5 and 36.3) I also had a fever around then which could of messed with it all.

loopylou1984 · 21/10/2015 21:31

Ah of you were poorly it's really hard to tell, but so far it doesn't look conclusive to me.

If you're not ovulating there is so much they can do, if you're going to get a diagnosis it's probably one of the easier things to fix.

However it is totally normal to have 1 or 2 month a year where you don't ovulate, so don't panic! Xx

LilyWhite2 · 21/10/2015 21:47

It's ok :) Thank you for helping me, its appreciated. I'll come back when I get to CD20 to see if we can spot it. Hopefully I can get a better chart.

I'm just getting a little down hearted with it now, as we've been trying and maybe now at the wrong times too. I also got these oestradiol results and the stress of missing the progesterone is making me panicky.

Is this the only way you can tell if a person ovulates? Through bbt and 21 day tests?

OP posts:
loopylou1984 · 21/10/2015 22:26

Yes. It took me a long time to realise that. I thought a positive opk meant I had ovulated, but no, only a temperature rise (or a blood test)can tell you that.
Actually it turns out I ovulate 2 days after my positive opk so was an eye opener for me! For most people it's only a day.
I have had one anovulatory cycle in the year since I started temping.

This thread will disappear if we stop chatting until cd20, so if you fancy it pop on to the bumsnet thread, there's lots of very knowledgeable ladies on there including at least two with ovulation issues. Everyone's lovely :). Xx

honeysucklejasmine · 21/10/2015 22:52

Yeah, keep temping. What thermometer do you have? A proper bbt one will be to two decimal places, so if you're struggling to see a pattern you might want to invest in one. Although I did get clear results on a cheap digital one from tesco. My temp went up by about 0.7-0.9 though so quite easy to see!

Sammy I hope you get your BFP soon. Took me 14 cycles and a MC, but I got there in the end. Fingers crossed for you too Flowers

LilyWhite2 · 21/10/2015 23:02

Oh I will pop in :) ill try get this sorted first though. I have a feeling this attempt might be better as I think I screwed up some of those temps and my fever.

I googled and it says ultra sounds can determin ovulation so I might ask my GP because I've missed two 21 day tests now and I need 2 before my referral but I can never tell how long a cycle is going to be.

I've got cheapie opks to start testing and then clear blues to confirm with temping. Thank you though, been a massive help :) xxx

OP posts:
LilyWhite2 · 21/10/2015 23:08

Honeysuckle - I got it off eBay.. it's a Kinetic digital but only one decimal it said it was for bbt. Might be an idea investing in one as this cost me £3.. so maybe it's just cheap.

Best of luck to you both on getting your bfps :) x

OP posts:
loopylou1984 · 22/10/2015 07:09

Lily - if it's just for you referral then just get it done any time. If they think you're not ovulating they will probably refer you more quickly then you'll be with the specialists who will have far more idea what to do!

Make sure you take your temp as soon as you wake with no talking or much moving, at the same time every day and after at least 3 hours sleep. Xx

willitbe · 22/10/2015 14:54

Lilywhite - I think you should just go for your day 21 tests on day 21, they will show you are not ovulating (whether or not you are), and then you will get the referral to fertility specialist, which will help you get scans done as well as other investigations.

Otherwise, when you get a cross-hairs as you did on your last chart, just go between 6 and 9 days after the cross-hairs appear, regardless of whether you are convinced by them or not, that way you will get the two tests done to get the referral, and at the same time, have a better idea yourself if your temps are just not showing that you have ovulated clearly.

Alternatively, changing the temping to vaginal temping, might give you a clearer picture too.

It does take 3 or more months to really get a picture of what your usual temps are pre/post ov.

Hope that you get your positive pregnancy test soon instead!

LilyWhite2 · 22/10/2015 17:06

Sammylou - Thank you, I'm worried that it was 23 or 25 but I fudged it up by being half asleep and mouth breathing as I had no idea. But then being 37 days I've heared the longer the cycle is, the less likely you are to ov. I'll never know I guess x

Hi willitbe, My Gp knows what my cycles are already as she's sort of told me off for going on the 21st day not 7 days before (mine should be 26-30.. and for once in a year I had a 32 day cycle which screwed the last one :( ).

I went and had my results printed off as I speak to them Tuesday and it says on there "this is not a mid luteal phase sample, inform patient and repeat again".

I did vaginally temp today and it's a massive change to oral, seems to be a lot higher so I thought get another 2 decimal thermometer and note both them down too see.

I'm terrified now that we've been trying for 6 cycles and it's all been in vain as we've probably tried at the wrong time and I don't have a clue about my body, it's got me a little upset with it all.

I agree Willitbe, I really need to atleast 3 to get an idea what my chart looks like but I know my temps are quite low xx

Who ever knew baby making was so complicated? Before I lost our little one it was a happy first time accident now it's complicated and a worry that somethings wrong with me.

OP posts:
loopylou1984 · 22/10/2015 17:58

Lily - please don't worry. 6 months is not that long and completely within normal time frames.
Get your tests done around day 18 and get your referral.

As I said, if you're not ovulating then you can get drugs to fix that so it's not the end of the world. I do know what you mean about feeling like you've wasted those cycles, but you can't change the past.
Keep having regular sex rather than trying to time it around ov.

I really think you should come and join the bumsnet thread with me. It is such a huge support to me, and there are ladies at all different stages of the ttc process. Xx

LilyWhite2 · 22/10/2015 21:21

Thank you Sammy you've been lovely :) I will take a look at the thread. I just got a little overwhelmed and stressed with everything going on.

I'm feeling a lot better after talking here and things. I recently moved so I had to quit my job so between looking this has been my focus. I need a distraction really xxx
