Damn that implant...

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering if anyone has conceived or is ttc after having the implant removed?

I had mine out the first week of September and so far there's no sign of af and I have had a couple of negative hpt's.

I don't know what to do next? Do I keep trying or wait for my period to return?

Keep trying and take the folic acid pre-emptively.

With any systemic hormonal contraceptive it can take a little while for things to return to normal. If your period hasn't returned after 12 weeks or so visit your doc.

Heya! I've been lurking around since my implant got removed, but not typed until I had anything worth saying :)

I had my implant removed on 6th August. Had a half day bleed on 13th August and then felt like I was pregnant for quite a few weeks. Wasted a ridiculous amount of money on tests (only ever negative results), then AF came along on 24th September.

After that, I used those cheap amazon ovulation tests rather excessively - nothing for days then one day got a faint line :) (you get the idea what happened next hehe)

Finally gave in to temptation and took a pregnancy test (amazon cheap one again) and got a BFP!

It's not what you want to hear, but my advice is wait for your first period (it really will come when you least expect it). Theeeen, as soon as it arrives, you have a marker to start calculating from (and ovulation testing)! I wish you the best of luck! x

Hi I had my implant removed on the 9th October, started period immediately afterwards. Had all the expected signs of ovulation, though a little earlier than the apps say! Apparently your fertility comes back very quickly with the implant, so fingers crossed for both of us! I got a positive OPK on day 8 of my cycle so hoping that was right!

Keep trying. Had mine out in march, conceived 5 or 6 weeks later, never had a period, now 28 wks. I did try and chart ovulation but missed it due to dealing with sick DCs.

Jennehhh- I keep doing the same! I've wasted so much money just to see negative results- and I think I'm imagining the pregnancy symptoms!! It really is frustrating not knowing what's going on in there!

Hello! 25, TTC number 1. I'm in the same boat except a week or so ahead of you, implant removed 26th of August, had a long heavy withdrawal bleed 2 days later, lasting around a week, but then took 45 days for a true period. So I'm really only counting this as cycle one.

I tried CB OPKs for a time following my withdrawal bleed, all negative, but decided I was on a very expensive road to nothing as had no way of knowing roughly when I would ovulate, so stopped after 10-12 days. I'm now restarting OPKs on day 8 of this cycle. Didn't help that my husband was away from home for 7 weeks until this Monday passed and only managed to DTD four or five times. We're now doing something resembling SMEP, but he travels a lot. Hoping this doesn't put too much of a spanner in the works.

Hi ladies. Good luck with your TTC missions. It's worth bearing in mind it can take up to a year for fertility to return to full whack from a hormonal contraception. So take your time and enjoy being intimate with your partner in the meanwhile. Don't stress, just enjoy!

AF came four weeks after removal. It took five months for AF to settle to a semi normal pattern.

Still no BFP and I became PG whilst using contraception the first time around so I'm sure it's affected my fertility!

No positive OPKs either but I only used them the first couple of months - haven't bothered since.

I'm probably an unfortunate blip though.

I had mine removed today! I had had it in for about 18 months. It was completely fused in and took a long time for them to get it out. My arm is in huge bandages and I daren't look at it!

I've been googling lots and some people do seem to get pregnant straight away, others can take several months for their cycle to start. I do believe that the GP can prescribe you hormones to kickstart it if it's taking a while.

I'm TTC number 3. but first time TTC as others were unplanned (depo and mirena babies) so it's all new to me. I have had 3 light periods on the implant over the last three months, including right now... so I'm wondering if I will still get the typical breakthrough bleeding in a few days or insted continue with the current monthly cycle?

I didn't have any periods at all whilst on the implant, Ionly had it for a year as I'm sure it was causing my anxiety to worsen. Still no signs of AF tho, I'm so tempted to do another test, but I know deep down its pointless.

It took a while for my DP to see that now is the perfect time for another, I feel like I've been waiting for this forever!!

I have been changing my mind every day since dd2 was born about when to have number three, then I was deciding wether to have another at all... But once OH agreed we should go for it now all my doubts have gone.

How old is your other dc/dc's Purplerain? If you haven't already, buy a huge bulk of the really sensitive cheapie tests from Amazon. They really are cheap and much better than the expensive high street ones. Then you can test away to your hearts content without worrying about wasting money.

I only had mine in for 8 months so it came out easily. Didn't realise they could fuse in until the nurse mentioned it! That would have put me off. I bled every day I had mine so not missing it at all now :)

Shemozzle-My DP was very worried and indecisive too, glad his worries have settled now and he feels ready for another! I have a DD who has just turned 4. My DP does have 3 children from a previous marriage tho- this was what caused the worries I think, they are 7, 8 and 10.

I will buy some cheap ones off amazon tho, just didn't want to be overly obsessed!!

AF arrived yesterday, at least now I can start tracking my cycle properly I guess!

Queenoftheworld I had an implanon implant several years ago, and when I had that taken out because it had expired it had fused. When I mentioned I knew it was common to fuse as it happened last time, just before they were taking this one out, the poor doctors face fell. She said it's not common, it only happens occasionally. We all decided that it was less likely this time as it had been in for less than half the time and that the Nexplanon version helps prevent it. Unfortunately not! The poor doctor looked traumatised and said its the worst she's ever had to do. I think I'd still get another in the future though...

Yay-ish for AF Purple! At least you know where you are at now. My withdrawal bleed seems to have run in to my implant bleed. (Usually lasts 4 or 5 days, and it's now been 8 or 9 but super light...barely existent) so I have no idea when I can expect OV. Guess I'll have to wait for next month too. My OH has been abroad from the day I had it taken out until the end of this week... According to my tracking, if this was counted as a real period he arrives back just in time. Fingers crossed it counts! Highly recommend the Ovia App by the way.

I have been temping and tracking in a variety of ways and it seems I ovulated 16 days after implant was taken out :) hopefully you guys will get things back to normal soon too!
