TTC at 40 instead of 39? Are the risks any greater?

I am 39 and wondering whether TTC a third with DP. I would rather wait 6 months to a year but am 40 next August. Can I wait or should I crack on?

Well statsitically I believe you'd have worse odds. But for you as an individual nothing drastic is going to happen. But your fertility will be slowly dwindling.

If I were you I'd crack on or spend the next 6 months ensuring that your and partner's lifestyles are impeccably healthy. This can have a very big impact on your conception chances.

Start restricting caffeine and alcohol if that's something you both drink. Ensure diet is great and moderate regular exercise. No smoking. Both of you start on the specific vitamins.

Also could start tracking your cycle so you know exactly when your fertile days are when you start TTC. Work out when exactly you ovulate, check your luteal phase is the right length etc. You could track your temperate or get one of those clear blue machines.

Then when you're ready to crack on you will have best possible chance.

Just be mindful you can't necessarily control the timing of these things. I remember waiting 6mo after getting married to TTC.

It took 18mo in the end and that was thru IVF on a fast track. We were only 30! I felt silly for waiting those 6mo in the end.

Most people I know TTC in there thirties got pregnant instantly- ie in the first month or it took a year of longer.

Good luck!
