First appointment with fertility consultant - what happens?

I have my first appointment with tarek el toukhy in a few weeks time. It's a consultation with scan.

I'm a bit nervous about going and I wondered if anyone has seen him, or if anyone has been to a similar appointment recently with another consultant - what do they discuss / do in this initial appointment? And what is the scan like - is it an ultrasound?

I have no idea who this particular person is unfortunately, but I have had a few fertility appointments, so can offer a little advice on the general protocol. My initial app involved basic checks such as weight/ BMI, arranging for partner's SA, and asking lots of questions about lifestyle and background, i.e. smoking, previous children/ pregnancies, regular sex etc. I didn't have a scan at my first app, which was through the NHS. As you know the name of who you are seeing, I assume you are going private? In which case, things may be slightly different, but I'm sure they'll still need to go through the above with you. I guess the ultrasound will be to check your womb and/or ovaries and make sure everything is ok. I'm sure your consultant will explain everything to you. Best of luck!

Oh, they will probably wish to do blood tests too to check hormone levels, unless you have had these done before recently.
