Hi everyone,

I already have a 4 year old little boy and am trying to get pregnant again.
I am 35 years old and have been trying since May this year.
I have used the Clearblue advanced ovulation test this month and am not on day 15 of my cycle and still no solid smiley face.
I have had flashing smiley faces for 9 days now.
Last month I used the clear blue ovulation test (non advanced one) and didn't get any day that said I was ovulating.
Anyone out there that is in a similar place?

Thanks in advance

Pat

You too, good luck with everything!xx

Hi pat and pum. Have you tried temping? It won't help you predict ov (as the temp rise comes 1-2 days after ov), but it will help you determine whether you are oving or not, and over a few months you will hopefully see a pattern of when it's happening. I found it really helpful to know what my body was doing.
I've heard lots of people have problems with the cb dual hormone opk, either going straight to solid without any flashy or just flashy and no solid. Temping takes a bit of getting used to but is worth a go. And unlike the cb, after you've bought the thermometer it's totally free Grin

PMagee · 11/10/2015 20:18

Fab thanks Marchgirl - do you know where I can buy this or find out more info on it? I see there is a clearblue temp?

I'm terrified too. I've been on contraception non stop for 7 years and had very little periods. I removed my implant nearly 9 weeks ago and still no period and no sign of. It's beginning to worry me but the doctors say to be patient and this can be normal

Orangeisthenewbanana · 11/10/2015 20:27

PM I had major issues with the Clearblue digital - apparently if you've already ovulated or start testing very close to ovulation it can miss it and just keep giving you flashing smiley faces. Plus I got loads of apparent errors even though I was following the instructions precisely. I actually found using the cheap opks better!

The month we did fall pregnant (after 8 months trying!), I just ignored the opks completely and we dtd every 3 days for 2 weeks around estimated ov (irregular cycle but using the opks and a cycle tracking app helped me narrow things down more). Currently 33 weeks with DC2. Good luck, I'm sure you'll get there soon!

Pumkins2mum · 11/10/2015 20:52

Hi Marchgirl yes I have been temping for the the last 6 months but this seems to gone a bit skew wiff as well this month at a total loss! Did get bloods done at the begining of the year to check that I wasnt going through early menopause they came back normal but worried that it could be happening 9'months on.x

Marchgirl · 11/10/2015 21:21

Pat, get yourself a basal body temperature (BBT) thermometer (they are a decimal place more accurate than a normal thermometer). You can buy them on amazon or various other places. You take your temperature every morning in bed before you do anything else. Try and take it at the same time. Get yourself a free app to record it. I use fertility friend (actually i used 3 different apps Blush, but i think that's probably the best). Your temp in the first part of your cycle should be fairly constant, then a day (or sometimes two) after you ov, your temp should rise by between 0.1 and 0.4 degrees centigrade. If you fall pregnant it will remain high. If you're not, it will drop back down around the time of your af. If you don't see a temp rise then you may be having issues ovulating and it would be worth seeing your gp, but it does take a couple of months to get the hang of it, so don't write it off if it's unclear. It could also be that you are oving, but just not every month. Hopefully it will confirm you are oving and you can work out what your pattern is. Fertility friend has lots of instructions too, you really don't need the paid part of the app, the freebie bit is enough. Ps. I would agree that dtd every other day is probably the best way to be successful (although i found this really hard!), but the temping will help confirm that you are ov, which will hopefully put your mind at rest and might help reduce your anxiety. Good luck!

Hi pum, sorry to hear it's all gone a bit strange this month. Perhaps you've had an anovulatory cycle? i gather many people have one every now and again. At 38 i certainly don't think you're close to time running out (same age as me! ) I just heard of someone aged 56 who gave birth recently. Not saying you should leave it that long, but certainly made me feel like a spring chicken.
What has your temp done this month? Have you seen a rise? If you're normally ovulating i would try not to worry about one screwy month (easier said than done! ) if your cycle continues to be whacky then i would recommend acupuncture to get it back on track. Sorted my cycles out after my mcs when they went a bit long and unpredictable.

DinoSnores · 11/10/2015 22:05

I've not used the Advanced CB monitor but have the normal one a few times.

1st time - 1st cycle - just highs, no peaks - BFP and DD2

2nd time - 1st cycle - just highs, no peaks - BFP and DD3

It didn't pick up that I had ovulated either time but I clearly did, so I just wanted to reassure you that it doesn't necessarily mean anything bad!

DinoSnores · 11/10/2015 22:07

Should add that I had been trying for a few months each time before using the CBFM, but I've had a pretty good success rate when using it.

DizzyNorthernBird · 12/10/2015 08:39

I looking at the CB advanced monitor on Amazon yesterday. I decided it wasn't for me as my cycles can be quite irregular and it would cost me a fortune to use. However, when I read the description it there is a long list of conditions which mean the monitor can't work properly, such as pcos and other issues. These will cause several days of 'flashing faces' supposedly and no positive indication. So, don't write yourself off OP, could it be possible there might be an underlying issue which is what's causing your results? This wouldn't neccessarily mean that you're infertile!

Pumkins2mum · 12/10/2015 17:42

Hi Marchgirl
I've been temping for the last 6 months, no change at all this month have a blood test for the 20th October so will have to wait and see what that shows up. Thank you for the age reassurance but your right don't think I'll be waiting that long! Have been having acupuncture at the beginning of the summer but the lady I go to see has been moving house so I can't an appointment till the 2nd of November. Many thank.x

PMagee · 12/10/2015 19:59

Update - I had some mucus today and some cramps - my advanced Clear Blue of course ran out yesterday but I still had my non advanced one from a month ago that I use now and again. I used it 3 days ago and empty circle - used it there now and a solid smily face - time to try and make babies! I will keep you all updated love to you all for all the help so far xoxox

Hi pat great news! Good luck and keep us posted.X

Marchgirl · 13/10/2015 15:29

Good news pat! Baby dust Smile

Pumkins2mum · 14/10/2015 14:05

Hi ladies bit of an update not that I really can't make any sense of it really. Body temp dip a bit on Monday was 36.2 usually 36.3-4 then on Tuesday shot up to 36.7 but has now dropped to 36.5. Does this I have ovulated or not, malso ovulation test kicked at last but is just reading high peaks????

Marchgirl · 14/10/2015 18:26

The drop and rise suggests ov, and I've had a sort of rise, then dip, then rise again before, and i looked it up and it is a 'thing' (can't remember the name of the chart type, a double something), so you might expect a rise again tomorrow. You need 3 days above your coverline to confirm ov, but at first guess i would say it did happen. Not sure about the cb one, but heard of lots of people going straight to peak without the high. Good luck with dtd

Pumkins2mum · 14/10/2015 18:39

Thank you, will keep checking for the next few days!x

PMagee · 19/10/2015 19:50

Sigh - I was so hopeful this month but I bought an early predictor test (6 days before period) mine is due in 4 and got a total negative result :( devastated - at what point should I go see a doctor? xx

OP posts:
Pumkins2mum · 19/10/2015 20:38

Hi Pat, don't give up hope just yet your not out till the AF shows up, just might be that it's too early. How long have you been trying? We have been trying for four months and I'm going for bloods tomorrow to check if I'm ovulating but we have a very small practice and our doctor is fab I was expecting to be fobbed off but to my shock she said she'd check this month. So I think it may be worthy try. Good luck don't give up just yet and don't get disheartened.xxxx

MrsPCR · 19/10/2015 20:57

My thermometer was a baby mad thermometer which was about a fiver off of eBay and as pp said, of all the apps I tried (a lot) I found fertility friend to be the easiest and most accurate to use and interpret.

PMagee · 20/10/2015 11:39

Thanks @pumkins2mum
I will keep my fingers and toes crossed.
Been trying since May so 6 months now and I am approaching 35 so just a little worried.
I am going to ask for bloods to be taken too though xoxo
