Question of conception after miscarriage?

I posted this in Chat but I think that was the wrong place for it Sad

Hiya, on Saturday I had some light pink spotting and knew in my heart I was miscarrying again. My bloods haven't doubled (only risen), and my scan showed nothing but a tiny dot that sonographers weren't sure if it was a sac or not and said it could be 'too early', however they didn't take into account that I got a positive test on 16th September so couldn't have been any less than 6 weeks at the time of the scan. I'm seeing them again Wednesday to confirm things.

People say you can be fertile from 2 weeks (maybe even 10 days), after you first started miscarrying. But I'm confused. Do I count this from when I started that slight pink spotting last Saturday? I'm still not bleeding properly, just the odd bits of blood here and there but it is constant.

Is it actually counted (CD1), from when you first started spotting, or is it when you start bleeding properly?

This is all so difficult and I had another miscarriage not so long ago (further gone), so it's as if trying again straight away is my only means of coping.

Thank you all Flowers

I am no expert but you really can't start trying again until you have finished bleeding from the miscarriage due to the risk of infection. I have heard fertility can be greater up to 6 months after mc but don't know how true this is.

I hope everything is OK when you go on weds, when did you get your bfp? If it was 16th sept it is possible that it is just too early to see on the scan like they said. Flowers

Hi Sunday, thank you. I got my BFP on the 16th and even if I got that at 9dpo (by my dates I certainly didn't), I'd still have to had been 6+ weeks at the least for the scan I had on Monday x

You won't ovulate until your hcg goes down and it's best to have a negative test before you have unprotected sex so you don't end up with a positive test and feel unsure whether it is a new pregnancy or not. So once you have a negative test, you can ovulate any time. As for when that will be, that is different for everyone. I bled lightly for 3 weeks before I actually properly miscarried (although that was at 11 weeks so later than you). I ovulated about 3 weeks after that.
Sorry you're going through this. It sucks.

Hopefully things will work out with this pregnancy. I was convinced that I'd lost my last one when I went for a 6 week scan after bleeding, like you they couldn't see much so needed me to go back a week later, and fortunately they saw a baby growing (I now have a healthy 3 month old boy).

Having said that I have also had 2 miscarriages. So know how awful it is if things don't work out.

Like the earlier lady said, you won't start your usual cycle again until your hcg levels are at 0 (ie. you are getting a negative reading on a pregnancy test). I was told with both of my miscarriages to wait until my first period before trying again. Which we did and then got pregnant again the following cycle both times. So yes, certainly seemed to be more fertile for me.

Finger crossed for you...

Hi Bebo, so happy you've had such a successful story (despite the horrors of the miscarriage side).

I agree that I could well have just been too early to see much at that time, and bleeding can be normal, but my hcg only went up about 450 in 48 hours which isn't a good sign at all Flowers

I'm not an expert, but I think there's a pretty big range of 'normal' when it comes to hcg levels.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for you anyway...

Horribly stressful days for you
