Is this a miscarriage? I'm not sure what to do :(

(apologies for instances of TMI...)

This was our fifth month of trying and I started spotting a few days ago, not unusual for me as I usually spot a few days before AF arrives, but it was earlier than I expected... (not that I knew for sure when I would be due as I took a month off from monitoring as we were going on holiday and just being a bit more relaxed this month, but I reckon I can normally feel it, so I had an inkling of when I'd ovulated anyway)...

... Anyhow, it was hardly anything - brown smudges - until this morning, when basically I poured bright red blood hard and fast, more than I've ever experienced at such a rate, and the biggest clot I've ever seen (I do usually have little clots throughout AF, but they're mainly of the stringy variety) it was flattish, smooth, about 1.5 by 2.5 inches.

There was no pain (which in itself is a bit odd for me - I'm generally pretty crampy) and after gathering my wits, slapping on a jumbo pad and heading out to work, it seems to have mostly stopped now, or at least settled down to a trickle. Could it have been an early miscarriage/chemical pregnancy? I'd be about 4.5 weeks. Should I wait it out and see what happens or should I visit a GP? (currently doctorless as we moved recently). I'm not particularly uncomfortable, perhaps some slight cramping, but hardly anything noticeable.

I'm just a bit torn as to what to do for the best. Anyone have any similar experience or advice? I'm feeling relatively chilled about the whole thing, but have a little kernel of unease and I'm unsure how to put it to rest.

Thanks
xx

Damson, why don't you do a test, it might still test positive. At least that way you'd know one way or another.
I've had this a couple of times and perhaps once more when we weren't trying so I was paying much attention. Very similar to what you described. Flowers

You're right, I should do a test. I guess I hadn't really considered it as I wasn't even expecting AF for a few more days by this month's guestimations, so assumed it would be too early to see anything anyway. I'll give it a crack when I get home/with tomorrow's FMU and see what's to do.
Thank you xx

I had this last month. 2 days of hardly there spotting and then it just gushed. I was out looking at motorbikes with my other half and I felt it. I was mortified. Luckily no one noticed and there was a toilet but I was in there ages trying to clean myself and there was a girl glaring daggers at me when I came out Blush. I had a pad on as well but it went straight through. Mine was painful though, take your breath away painful. I didn't have a positive test so I just assumed it was a "normal" period.
A test could indicate if you were pregnant but with most chemical pregnancies you never know. Good luck on your ttc journey.

If it is any consolation, this has happened to me when I have definitely not been pregnant -I used to get very heavy periods in my teens and (so sorry for this TMI) but literally used to pass solid clotty masses like you describe. A doctor at the time put it down to dehydration (not enough fluids to break down the clot and pass it with normal menstrual blood.

Hope you find out either way and good luck x

You could be on to something with the dehydration - I have just spent a week away in sunnier climes and I felt totally crispy after the plane journey home!

Well, a test was negative, and after yesterday's flood and subsequent drought, relatively normal service appears to have been resumed :( Looks like we'll just have to get back on it next month...

Thanks for all your help
xx

I had similar when I was pg with ds (now 15mo!) . But also cramping. I have had a mc before I was pg with dd which was similar. The difference was that after thay episode with ds it stopped almost as suddenly as it started. With the mc I bled for about a week. I would suggest seeing how it goes.
