Fibroids - Will I Get Pregnant?

Hi there,

Newbie here, ttc baby number 1. We have only just started trying and I am really concerned about my fibroids. I ha(d) two uterine fibroids abut the size of peppercorns diagnosed about four years ago as I was having very heavy and painful periods.

These have since stopped, but having googled it since I see that it can be a real problem when you are trying to conceive.

Should I be worried? I have made a doctors appointment, but if there is anyone here who has been through this experience I would love to hear that everything was OK!

Thanks in advance,

Bonnie

Can you get your GP to refer you to the gynecologist, who can do a hysteroscopy to have a look?
You might need to tell the GP you've been trying for 6+ months before they'll refer you though

Thanks Sparechange, that is exactly what I shall do.

I am lucky that I have private health insurance through work, so am hoping I can get referred quickly, as I can't bear the thought of having to wait months to find out! Is everyone like this once they make the decision? I wanna be pregnant and I want it NOW! lol

x

If you have private insurance, you need to talk up the very heavy and painful periods, because it won't cover anything to do with fertility.

Where abouts are you based?

I had a 4 cm fibroid and conceived easily the first time round. With the second I had a 6 cm one and it took 1 and a half years but it wasn't connected. It is certainly possible. Good luck x

Thanks, that is really reassuring to know - I appreciate everyone is different but I don't think mine are that big (well, they were the size of peppercorns 4 years ago so they might be) so fingers crossed.

Sparechange - good point, I will keep schtum about trying for a baby. I am in Wiltshire.

Thanks all. Now hurry up ovulation window!!

Just wanted to update this to say that after five months in total of ttc on and off since last sept, I am now 7+3 pregnant! So the fibroid/polyp thing didn't stop me conceiving - fingers crossed it won't cause any problems down the line, but so far so good touches wood.
