Part time work while ttc

I am currently ttc #2. My daughter who will be 4 in August starts school in September, when I asked to reduce my hours (don't want her to go to out of school clubs and childminders etc), I was handed the appeals procedure booklet. I wrote a nice letter and explained I wanted to be there for my daughter (she has been in full time nursery since 18 weeks old), so now I am looking for part time work to start asap. What would happen say, if I fell pregnant when I just started a new position.
Anyone else in the same boat....

Statutory Maternity pay is "90% of your average weekly earnings in the 8 weeks up to and including the 15th week before your expected week of childbirth". So ideally you'd want to change to a new work pattern just after that to retain the maximum SMP. (Doesn't give you a lot of time if you want to have changed your working pattern by September I know.)

Otherwise your rights are no different as a part-timer than as full time. Just changing your working hours/t's&c's shouldn't be considered as a break in continuous service. You'd have to check your employers policies for other things if you get more than the statutory minimum.
