What are the chances of a false positive?

Good afternoon lovely ladies of mumsnet...

I was hoping some one will be able to put my mind at rest ...

My last period started 24th july ... i ovulated somewhere between 20th -25th august ... i had a small bit of brown discharge on 31st august. All hpt's were negative (testing daily for last 2 weeks) this morning i had what i beleive to be a BFP... 2 lines on an IC the test line appeared very quickly and was pink in colour ...

The only reason im questioning it is because it would put me at 7ish weeks pregnant which seems a long time to wait for the hcg count to be high enough for a postive... anyone had a similar experience?

TIA Smile

Assuming you don't have a medical condition that affects the test result, and it isn't an evap line, it won't be a false positive. Congratulations.

If you OVd four weeks into your cycle then from your post id guess you would be five weeks PG. for the time being they'll date you at seven (I think) and then adjust your dates at the dating scan.

Tentative congratulations Smile

I did like 7 tests before I would believe it - Could you do a couple more for reassurance? I'm not very experienced in this field, but I gather these tests are very reliable now and that false positives are the exception, not the norm.

Fingers crossed for you!

I would do another test. You can't get false positives but it could be an evap line

Thank you for your replies... i have one IC left, 1 first response test and 2 clear blue digis on the way!! Will re-test tomorrow morning!

That's quite a faint line but you never know!

I don't want to put a downer on you but I have those same tests. And I took one yesterday because my husband convinced me and it was with afternoon urine and the positive came up within seconds. I took two more believing I had done the tests wrong. And then went out and bought a digi. So my test are BFP's at around 3-4 weeks. They were very strong. I would do some more tests and try testing tomorrow. You say 7 weeks you might actually be testing a little early and it may be more like 1-2 weeks if the bleed was a period. So don't get upset just take some more of the next couple of days and see if that line gets stronger. Wish you the best of luck x

I can see a very feint line in the first pic but nothing on the second one

basilsenia - I would suggest evap line, as it is narrower than it should be. But it is possible to test negative for a while, some people don't get tests till very late. However I would query as to if you are certain you ovulated as you don't seem sure on the date. The small brown discharge that you had on the 31st could have been many things, ovulation related, implantation related or just if you did not ovulate this month, a slight break-though bleed. Test again in a couple of days and that will help knowing if it is pregnancy or not. I hope it is positive for you then!

Enzlou - you surely are not 3-4 weeks pregnant! It says 3+ on the test, which means 5+ weeks pregnant. With the lines that dark on those tests I would have guessed you were nearer 7 weeks or more...... !
