New here...Preg test and I need some help!

I've been reading these boards for a long time but only just joined. In short, I'm 35 yrs old ttc for 18 months. Never had a whiff of a BFP...not one. I am actually throwing in the towel by December if I had not conceived as the emotional roller coaster is too much.

So...I'm 12 DPO today and started chatting this month. I had had a really positive chart but today it dropped. Still above the cover line but it was a harsh drop.

I decided to do a preg test and got this!!! I have attached photos.

Wth is half a skinny line?!? It's quite dark at the top but skinny!

I want to be really happy but I'm scared too in case it's a negative gone funny. What do you think pls?

Had lots of symptoms. Lack of PMT being one and pains at 8dpo. Massive boobs (not sore though) and gums bleeding a lot. Period due today or tomorrow.

How long was this taken after? It looks like an evap line to me.
If it was done within the time then I'd say positive - could you get a clear blue one? Good luck.

I think you need to test again, give it a few hours (or even better wait until your first wee tomorrow) and use a first response.

It was 5 mins after taking the test. What gets me is that the line is pink...but just thin and half a line! I read a great article from a Dr on evap lines that said if there is colour, it's a positive sign. It just looks odd :/

I'm actually abroad at the moment and cannot get another test until Tuesday. Frustrating much!

Thank you but AF came yesterday and smashed any hope of a BFP. I've learned a lesson about tests I suppose - go digital!!!

I'm really considering stopping TTC, it's too much ??

I hope everyone else gets some good news if they are in the TWW and thanks for remembering about this post xx

dont go digi!!...they are rubbish. less sensitive than most, expensive, and the result doesn't hang around all that long.

I'm sorry your AF turned up. It took me a long time to conceive too and I remember getting AF while I was on holiday. I was in a really bad way. So look after yourself.

My advice to you is to take a break. It's exhausting and I actually think you lessen your chances by focusing too heavily on it.

You're on holiday. Get drunk. Eat loads and enjoy yourself. Starting from now you are officially no longer ttc. In three months you can think about it again, but for now you need some time off. Put it out of your mind for three months.

At the end of the year you can think about what you want to do and start 2016 with a clear head and a plan

Thank you that's made me feel better. It's just hard to "not" think about it isn't it. How long did it take you to conceive?

I was going to say that the test in your OP is faulty, but then read on.

Buggeration.

Have you been to see a GP re some preliminary tests? At 18 months of ttc and mid thirties, they should be starting with some blood tests and going from there.

And I agree, digital are not as sensitive and a waste of money.

It took us 18 months and I found it really really hard.

Take a look at some of the 10 plusser threads in conception. They're full of lovely ladies who offer fantastic support. I found them so helpful, particularly when I had my melt down on holiday.

The pressure is extreme. We conceived after I said 'fuck it, I'm not doing it anymore'. We went away for the weekend. I got drunk and drank caffeine to my heart's content, ate whatever I wanted and laughed loads.

I know how hard it is not to focus on it, but you know when you've had enough. You are a person. You need to look after yourself too. Give yourself a little respite. If in three months you want start again then you can think about it then

I gave up end of July - barely done the deed in August and I'm now 5 weeks , so giving up seemed to have helped me though I would never have believed it!

I went to the Drs after a year and he just said "carry on. It will happen". Lol, helpful.

Tbh, I'm petrified of going to the Drs again. I had an operation on my cervix for cancerous cells in my mid twenties and it was awful, I can't bear the thought of having things fiddled with down there. Plus I'm scared about finding out something is wrong, when you don't know, you still have a bit of hope. If they say nope, your never having a child, you have to deal with that info then don't you.

Plus I'm worried about how this could change my marriage. What if you resent your husband if it's him...or he resents you if its you?!?

I just struggle to admit to myself something is wrong.

This is really great, no one except my husband know we're ttc and I've bottles this up for a long time. It's great talking it out xx

Hiya. We were trying for over a year and went to Dr. A blood test later it turns out I have an underactive thyroid- they put me on thyroxine and I was pregnant the following month/ no fiddling down there required! My husband is upstairs reading the very hungry caterpillar to our little girl who's 17 weeks old today. Don't lose hope xx

Your GP is wrong and after a year they should be getting the ball rolling.

In the first instance, you will be offered blood tests. So no fiddling. You could have these and decide what you want to do with the results.

I really do understand where you're coming from. You'd rather live in blissful ignorance than face the possibility of that door slamming in your face. However, is it worth thinking of it in terms of, well if I do just have those preliminary bloods done, I might find that there's something preventing me conceiving but something really easily fixed. If that option's there, how would you feel about passing it up?

Obviously, it's completely your choice but I do think a sympathetic GP would listen and advise either way.

Yes, I'm 32 weeks. Much like Icant, DH and I dtd maybe twice the month I conceived. I didn't even think I was ovulating, though tbf I'd stooped keeping track.

You can still read the bit on one of the conception threads where I am moaning about the lack of AF. Great I thought, now I'm going to have to go back to the GP to find out why I have no periods. I didn't occur to me that I might be pregnant. One of the lovely ladies on the thread gently suggested that there might be an obvious reason why it had failed to show. I was genuinely .

To put your mind at rest about visiting your GP. The first step would be to give you a blood test to see if you are ovulating and a sperm test for DH. Remember at every stage there are things they can do. Once those tests come back there are a few ways you can go. I had an ultrasound to check my ovaries. I did have PCOS, but not severe enough to prevent conception. It was then decided that it was not necessary to do any more tests because the best course of action would be clomid. I never had anything invasive at all.

As it transpired, this coincided with me reaching the end of my tether and deciding to take a break. I ended up conceiving naturally 2 months later.

Sorry for the huge post, but I just want you to know you're not alone.

Ah massive congratulations! That's lovely! I bet you were sooooooo shocked :)

I'm pretty sure I'm ovulating. I've done opks which were positive then starting charting too which showed a huge temp spike around the same time - which I assume is good news. DH has had no tests at all so I will tell him he needs to go. He will love that ??

How long did you have to wait for your ultrasound?

I'm going to use your story as inspiration

I'm pleased my story can give you hope. I haven't forgotten the dark days! I know how hard it is.

They don't always do an ultrasound as the next stage, but mine was about 2 months after I got the results of my blood tests. I think it was around Christmas time actually because I remember crying in the room surrounded by decorations and feeling like an idiot.

Just remember that there could be a million reasons why it hasn't happened yet and so many of them are completely treatable and sometimes the reason is that it just hasn't happened yet. The hardest thing is to make sure you look after yourself mentally and emotionally.
