Ovulation test showing positive 1 week before AF.. CONFUSED!

Hi,

So I was wondering if this has happened to anyone before, I have been ttc for 3 months after 2 consecutive m/c (the last being in July). I usually fall pretty quickly so this month I have been using Clearblue digital ovulation kits just to check everything was happening normally. I got a smiley face on the 25th & 26th of August (2 weeks ago) so we actively tried in this time.. then on Saturday for some reason (I’m not sure why) I thought I would test again and it was positive! Then again on Sunday and again a smiley face today! so I am confused, has this happened to anyone else? AF is due in 7 days so it’s too early to do a pregnancy test but I have read ovulation tests can detect a similar hormone to pregnancy, but I have also read you can ovulate twice! Any information anyone has would be greatly appreciated! It’s going to be a long week! Thank you!

I think as I understand it, the only certain way to know you've ovulated is through BBT.

Was it the dual hormone opk? Could've have detected you were about to ovulate but perhaps your body decided to ovulate later instead due to stress or another reason.

I think that when you ovulate twice, it's usually within hours of the first one.

Oh and I just thought - I think you need to buy a new holder for the tests as once you get a peak, the digital holder can be thrown. You can use the sticks in another pack though.

Also if you did ovulate two weeks ago then you could be pregnant?

Thank you for replying! I use the digital one not the dual hormone one, so it just shows an empty circle if you’re not and a smiley face if you are. I got empty faces for a few days then 2 days of smiley faces (around when I thought I should) then I think I tested again and it was back to an empty face.

I did look on the clearblue site and it said you can re use the holder so I don’t think there is a problem with it. Sounds silly but I might get my partner to do one tonight to see if it comes up with a smiley face, that way I will know for sure if there is an issue with the stick!

Yes there is a chance that I am pregnant and I have read that the ovulation sticks can pick it up as the hormone is very similar to the pregnancy hormone but I do not want to get my hopes up!

Its very strange, Im hoping I either am pregnant or the holder is broken as I am not sure what sort of a problem ovulating twice would mean for me!

I had a similar thing, but think it can be down to there being the LH hormone in your body continually. I got my hopes up a bit with positive OV tests, but BFN on the pregnancy ones, so it may just be down to your body having one of those weird months

Thank you for your reply, did you ever get negative ov tests? I had negatives then they went to positives then back to negative once I had ovulated (I guess) but now back to positive! so I don't know if that would mean I had the lh hormone in my body all the time.. it all seemed so straight forward when we decided to try, how naïve I was! its not been straight forward at all!

Sophie yes, I got negatives then back to positives. On one of the threads I posted about this, one of the others had researched this, and you apparently get another LH surge just before AF, so that could be the reason for yours, though hopefully not xx

Hi i just wanted to say thank you for your responses today and that i took a gamble and done a pregnancy test although im not due on for another 7 days and it is positive!!! i have had 3 miscarraiges so am very anxious already but all tests have come back negative so who knows. If anyone is in a similar situation and had positives on their ovulation tests i just wanted to let you know that it can also mean your pregnant! X
