well that happened to me today

I'm two days late. had no intention of doing a test but have sinus headache and didn't want to take anything until I knew for sure. so bought a boots test and did it. And dh read the test, and thought that two lines meant it was a bfp.

so excitedly I ran upstairs to get the instructions.

and it was one of those -+ tests.

so although there were two lines, one was a -

so bfn :-(

but now dh is beating himself up that he got my hopes up.

But it was an honest mistake. Why would I blame him. Now I feel bad for getting so upset. How can I convince him that it's ok?

would never blame him - these things happen.

Isn't it two lines if it is positive as one is to say the test was done properly and the other as you are pregnant?

LadyTophamHatt · 26/11/2006 19:13

Hmmmm....I was mightly confused by the boots test I did this time because of it's lines.

Are you absolutley sure it was -ve wannabe??

LucyJones · 26/11/2006 19:14

this is why I did the digital one - you can't mistake a 'pregnant' or 'not pregnant' fingers crossed for you xxx

FemaleoftheSpecies · 26/11/2006 19:19

what type wannabe?

MrsMcJnr · 26/11/2006 19:37

Oh Wannabe, big hugs, what a disappointment xx

wannaBe1974 · 26/11/2006 19:52

well as sure as I can be. according to the instructions there should be a ine to show if test has worked, and then in the other window should be a + or a - to indicate pos or neg.

Dh said it looked like two lines, as in, one in each window, but the result one was just a - not a + iyswim.

confused now lol

Bugger bugger bugger bugger bugger bugger bugger bugger bugger bugger bugger bugger.

Just give DH a hug and tell him it's okay. He won't stop beating himself up about it because in a way it's not just reading the test wrong by mistake is it? He knows how much you've wanted to get pg again and at the back of his mind probably feels that masculine 'must impregnate mate' thing and then kicks himself royally when it doesn't go to plan. How are things with him? Did he completely stop taking any meds- seem to remember they made him poorly? Did he have any more sperm counts taken?

For Christmas I just want you, MrsMcJ et al to get pg.

FemaleoftheSpecies · 26/11/2006 20:03

tell dh not to feel bad; at least he actively takes an interest in tests and condones purchasing them - unlike mine [sceptical]

Natty1806 · 26/11/2006 20:04

I know the test you are on about, it comes up with a cross in the second window if + and just one line down the middle is -.

Tell hubby it is a very easy mistake to make as most tests are two lines (one in each window) for a +.

Hope you are okay hun. x

wannaBe1974 · 26/11/2006 20:14

SOH no he stopped taking it as it was making him poorly. Natty didn't your dh have a similar reaction to fertility plus?

He didn't go for any more tests - we decided to just let it go. I actually was going to go back on the pill but ultimately couldn't brin myself to do it, but had totally put ttc out of my mind as by now I had come to the conclusion it's just not going to happen. - until now. Hey ho am sure af will arrive if/when it can be bothered lol.

DebbsyandBibby · 26/11/2006 20:20

i always check the threads to see if you and coggy get your bfp.

ShowOfHands · 26/11/2006 20:20

Well I'm glad DH is feeling better, but the whole thing is such a bloody bugger, scuse my French.

I think the letting it go thing is such a good idea, but so hard to put into practice when there's always that possibility at the back of your mind.

I honestly hope that it happens for you and in the meantime, have you sold your house yet??!!

wannaBe1974 · 26/11/2006 20:21

aw

wannaBe1974 · 27/11/2006 10:03

well dh still feeling a bit bad this morning, even though I've told him time and time again that it's ok. Think he feels worse because we've been trying for so long though. But he'll be fine - I'm sure of that.

Having said all that, there's still no sign of my af and now I've started to wonder the usuall ... what if I tested too early etc etc? Will wait another week and if no sign then will test again, with a digital! lol.

BabymadwithBump · 27/11/2006 10:19

Similar thing happened to me with the "clear blue" PG test two cycles back, I tuck the test went + straight away then - then back to + after 10-12, the time between 2 mins and 10 mins is the only time you should read it and in that time frame it was the - results but didn't stop me wondering IYSWIM left me really really confused at the time, and I got so upset! I wasn't confused for long as AF came the next day! I hope your DH feels better soon!

MrsMcJnr · 27/11/2006 11:54

SOH - that's really sweet of you, thank you. How are you doing?

Wannabe - I really hope that you get that BFP at some point, I know what you and your DH have been through and I really hope it happens for you. Hope AF stays away.

Know how you feel about the house, ours is on the market too and it's been dead for the last few weeks, probably have to resign oursleves to more activity in the Spring.

wannaBe1974 · 29/11/2006 13:24

hiya all quick update to let you know that af arrived last night so I at least am sure where I'm at now. At least I can take sinutab for my sinuses now which is a relief, because although they're better than they were, it's still be painful for past three days!

OP posts:
MrsMcJnr · 29/11/2006 16:24

Oh Wannabe, I'm sorry get well soon!!

FemaleoftheSpecies · 29/11/2006 18:08

wannabe - sorry about af. truly sympathise having been hit with her usual uninvited stay and a bug which has even had my mum hinting at pregnancy whilst have periods - been so sick. gulp down some sinutab - and have a drink .. do u find wine makes sinus pain worse? i do.. it'll just have to be the hard stuff then.. when you've sold your house that is.
good luck
