Waiting to try, and cycle a mess from the pill

Just wondering if there are any other lurkers in the same boat as me, planning to TTC in December/January?

I came off the pill three months ago and have only had one pathetic AF in that time, so very glad I came off early but also pretty anxious at how messed up things are, 1st cycle was 39 days, this one is 40 and courting.

So who's with me? I can't be the only person on here who is actually hoping for AF!

Fx its just too early and you will get your BFP Chapman x

cnchapmanxx · 10/01/2016 23:33

Thanks Yvonne how are u getting along xx

shankate182 · 10/01/2016 23:45

Do these tell you when ur ovulating or what? Never heard or used them b4 :)

Cookie22 · 11/01/2016 07:15

I feel exactly the same, Chapman! Quite a lot of my friends are pregnant just now and although I'm enormously happy for them, I just can't wait until it's my turn. 7 or 8dpo for me and no sign of AF. Hopefully that short luteal phase was a one off last month!

Shankate, use the OPKs the days running up to your suspected ovulation day. It will detect LH surge (needed to release your egg). When you get a positive reading (line as dark or darker than control) then you will ovulate 12-36 from this point & is the optimum time to dtd Smile xx

Loulabelle1990 · 11/01/2016 07:37

Hi ladies, sorry to hear of your BFN! It's disheartening isn't it. My boyfriend (soon to be husband) keeps telling me to do tests as I haven't had any bleeding since stopping cerazette early December. I done a couple before new years but no BFN.

Judging by my cm last week though it was indicative that I was ovulating. Who knows though, I wish I had done an OPK now! But I didn't want to do one in case it was negative haha. If AF does show up in the next couple of weeks I will have to do a preg test and if BFN then I'll book an appointment to see dr!

Hopefully your AF doesn't turn up and you get a positive this month! I refuse to keep preg tests in my house now so the temptation isn't there xxx

cnchapmanxx · 11/01/2016 10:06

Cookie - same for me! I'm always overjoyed when others are pregnant as I don't know how long it has took for them! Feeling really iffy this morn woke up with spots, looks like AF will be on its way! That's good news let's hope she doesn't show! I need to keep remembering we only been officially trying one month! Haha!

Hi Loulabelle thanks for your kind words! Have you had your AF yet? xx

NewGirl2015 · 11/01/2016 10:16

Fingers crossed it was just too early chapman, stay strong and try to hold out, fx for you the witch doesn't show up!
Cookie good luck for your last week of waiting, hope that being busy at work keeps your mind occupied!

My cycles do seem to be getting back to normal in terms of length, my last 3 have been 38, 30 and 29, pre pill I was between 30-35 days although never completely on the button. Still a bit inconsistent when I ovulate/get my positive OPK within the cycle, last 2 cycles it's been cd18 but only last month did I really confirm this with temping.
So where I'm at this month, cd16, had flashing smileys on my CB tests the last 3 days, and have DTD every day in line with that, going to keep DTD just waiting for that static smiley!! Interestingly I did a CB and cheapy OPK at the same time this morning, and didn't get even the hint of a line on the cheapy, despite getting the flashing smiley on the CB. I don't tend to get an increasingly stronger line on the cheapys, it's all or nothing so maybe the cb's are the way to go for me as id have missed out if I hadn't used them!
xx

firstgo1984 · 11/01/2016 10:19

Morning all

Going ever so slightly mad today.

it is 8 months since stopping the pill. i was so hoping for a nice short cycle this time around, but I'm CD18 and no sign of ovulation yet.
Last month when I finally ovulated it just came out of the blue - which I guess could still happen in the next few days.

But if it doesn't.... I am weighing up my options of what to do:

  • ask to get some bloods done at the beginning of my next cycle to check I haven't got underlying PCOS (I have no other symptoms of it - normal BMI, no acne or hirsuitism) as I have no sea how regular my periods were pre-pill
  • just try some agnus castus and keep waiting

I know my doctor will say it is normal for it take up to a year to regulate (as that is exactly what i would say to my patients), but I am impatient and the not knowing is stressing me out (which I know won't help me to ovulate!). I don't want to reach a year and then find out it's not just post-pill irregular cycles and something else is causing it!

Sorry all... just a bit frustrated today.

cnchapmanxx · 11/01/2016 13:10

new girl - hoping for this aswell! i dont hold out much hope though as other people seem to find out on 9dpo onwards mind u the pg test i used was only a £1 from asda might not be sensitive enough or maybe im clutching haha! what are the cbs hun? think i need to start using these now instead of cheapy opks as i didnt use them at all in new york i just went off what my ovia app told me :/ my thermoter finally arrived but i think its dodgy as when it comes on it goes off straight away! im having no luck haha! like the other girls have said you only need one sperm to catch fx for you!

first- maybe you should go to the doctors and say you have been trying over a year. see if that speeds anything up! have u had AF in the past 8 months? x

Loulabelle1990 · 11/01/2016 13:15

Hi first, if I were you I would definitely go to the docs to put your mind at ease - at least they can do tests to rule anything out! Then you can hopefully put your mind at ease a bit.

Nope still no AF for me! I am thinking of buying those cheap OPK's from Amazon and if it's positive then do a test on the CB digital. So frustrating isn't it!

firstgo1984 · 11/01/2016 13:25

cnchapmanxx* yes I have had AF. Since stopping:

  • withdrawal bleed then...
  • 38 day cycle
  • 32 day cycle
  • 48 day cycle (started TTC in this cycle - and I know we completely missed ovulation if it happened)
  • 77 day cycle (positive opk and ewcm cd62 and 63 which I caught)

Currently CD18. I was quite hopeful in the first couple of cycles that they were going to be a reasonable length, but then the last 2 have been frustratingly long.

If I am going to go to the doctors I should aim for day 3-5 for LH/FSH tests and get the rest at the same time. No point wasting their time before then.

So if I look at it realistically I have only really had one shot at it! The thing that frustrates me is that it could take even longer for my periods to regulate. I'm kinda fed u of opks already!
Time goes fast! Been trying for 5 months (and only had one chance!!!!!!)

I think I just need to rant a little.

chillthefXXkout · 11/01/2016 13:40

Hello! I'm a serial lurker on this thread, it's keeping me (almost) sane to share your journeys. Congrats on all the BFP's out there! Smile

I was wondering if someone could explain exactly what they test for when doing blood tests, or should test for? I'm in the same boat as Firstgo - I stopped the pill in March and have had
-41 day cycle
-54 day cycle
-38 day cycle
-38 day cycle
-51 day cycle
and currently on day 74 and waiting....

I haven't worked out if I'm ovulating...it all feels like I'm stabbing in the dark. Anyway, my GP has agreed to test bloods on CD 3-5 (when AF finally arrives) and then do CD 21 tests... but what exactly should I be looking out for from the results? What should I be asking the GP? I'm confused, despite reading up about PCOS etc...Confused Any help appreciated!

firstgo1984 · 11/01/2016 13:47

chill sounds like we are in very similar situations.

The D3-5 bloods will give you an LH:FSH ratio. In PCOS the LH tends to be higher than it should be.
It's difficult to interpret this at other stages of the cycle as the LH might be high due to impending ovulation.

D21 bloods will look at your progesterone level. They shouldn't really be called D21 bloods as they need to be 7 days before your period. They will help to confirm ovulation has occurred. But they are notoriously difficult to take on the right day if you have irregular cycles.

chillthefXXkout · 11/01/2016 13:59

Thanks firstgo - what level LH:FSH should I have for it to be all tickety boo?

My GP said that I should go on CD21 and then every 7 days until I get my following period...that could be a lot of blood tests!

firstgo1984 · 11/01/2016 14:04

chill - are you using opks?
If you are, then that might help you know when to go for the CD21 bloods. I would say to go for a blood test 7-10 days after that.

firstgo1984 · 11/01/2016 14:21

I just phoned and the soonest i can get even a telephone appointment to get bloods sorted in 3rd feb...
hopefully i will have had a period by then and won't need bloods, but i am glad I phoned now!

NewGirl2015 · 11/01/2016 15:18

Chapman Yeah have a look at the box, the really sensitive ones are able to detect 5ml as opposed to 10/15 on a normal one.
CB is a clear blue digital OPK, they are expensive but for me worth it as the cheapies don't seem to detect the lead up to Ov for me.
Have you tried Angus cactus yet? Sounds like most people have found it pretty good.
First and chilli so sorry to hear about your crazy cycles! Are you having any luck tracking CM and/or temping?
Xx

firstgo1984 · 11/01/2016 15:34

newgirl when i got my positive opk on cd62 last cycle I had ewcm cd62,63 and 64 and it was really obvious. no sign so far this month.
debating agnus castus at the moment. my internet researching has just left me unsure!

chillthefXXkout · 11/01/2016 16:32

I haven't been using OPKs...been deliberating - as my cycles are so erratic I don't feel confident that they would help? I guess I would have to do them every day for as long as it took to get a result...?

I haven't really noticed EWCM as I'm never sure if it's that or old sperm..(way tmi, sorry) Blush

Think I'm going to have to start temping...

3rd Feb is a long time to wait firstgo hopefully you will get a BFP before then!! crosses fingers

When did it all get so complicated? I'm nearly 32 and feel foolish for being on the pill for so long and not getting to know my body when I was younger. Sorry, moaning.

firstgo1984 · 11/01/2016 16:35

chill i've been beating myself up about not coming off the pill earlier. I'm 31 too (32 in March) and was convinced it'd all be fine!
I buy the cheap one step opks on amazon. i get through too many to use clear blue all the time!

firstgo1984 · 11/01/2016 18:57

Right update. Decision made. I am giving agnus castus a go. Decided it can't do any harm and I can still be cynical even if it works

cnchapmanxx · 11/01/2016 19:09

New girl - this box doesn't even tell me what ul it can detect they so rubbish but cheap haha! I'm going to go to super drug I think on Friday if AF does not show! Oh where did you get it from is it re usable? Thinking of getting one if you can use it every month! I think I might try it what does it do? My cycles are normal just dot know whether I'm catching at the right time!

Chill - sorry that your cycles aren't back to normal yet I was one of the lucky ones!
First - happy you have an appointment Hun fx for you! And I think I'm going to give agnus a go too!
Xxx

firstgo1984 · 11/01/2016 19:35

cnchapmanxx I went for the a vogel liquid one..... it tastes interesting!
But it's what i could buy from my local health shop. started it mid cycle. we shall see

cnchapmanxx · 11/01/2016 20:05

How much is it first
Just went for my first run of 2016 and my god it was freezing outside all the cars were iced over! I've put on nearly 8lb since October I feel disgusting! Even if I do catch this month I'm making sure I exercise and eat well!
Xx

Cookie22 · 11/01/2016 21:12

Hi everyone! New Girl, that's great your CB OPKs are flashing. Keep dtd & hopefully you should get your static too. I was so frustrated with my CB ones this month until, out of of the blue, it appeared with the static smiley one day (didn't get flashing at all). Think I would have missed my peak surge otherwise!!

Chapman, good on you going for a run! I haven't managed to keep up my exercise & fitness regime since my wedding last year. Will def get healthy next month if I get a bfn.

First, glad you got an appointment even though it's quite far off. It gives you time to see if AF will arrive. Glad you are giving Agnus a go, it's worth a shot!

Welcome, Chill! Hopefully your cycles settle quickly. We all seenm to be (or have been) in a similar boat to you. Loulla I would definitely recommend getting some cheap OPKs from Amazon or eBay! They can be addictive tho!

Well I have been feeling HORRENDOUS today! Had AF cramps on and off all day, to the point where I was wanting to curl up beside the big teddy bear at the corner of my classroom. I hope it's not a bad sign that AF is due tomorrow. Just have this feeling I'm going to waken up to the witch! I so hope it's a positive symptom & nothing else... Xx
