Dilemma! To test on my birthday or not?

Hi ladies,

Bit of a dilemma for you. I've been TTC since a MMC at 10 weeks in March. According to OPKs (which have always been accurate for me) AF is due 1-2 days after my 30th birthday, later this month. I usually don't test until AF is late but this month I'm wondering whether to test on the morning of my birthday.

If I test and get a BFP obviously it would be the best birthday present ever. Plus I'll know what to avoid eating/drinking in my birthday celebrations.

If I test and it's a BFN at least I could have a guilt-free drink (or eight). But I'm worried I'll be really gutted and it will ruin my birthday.

If I don't test, I won't feel like I can drink at my birthday lunch. Although I suppose I could let myself have one glass of champagne.

What do you think? Has anyone else been in this position before?

Thanks in advance! Smile x

I would test on your birthday, have orange juice if you are pregnant and buck's fizz if you're not, as might be 'not yet.'

Come back and tell us!

Mollydog88 · 17/08/2015 09:43

Do it! Otherwise I think you'll be preoccupied all day with not knowing anyway (or I know I would!).

Autumn2014 · 17/08/2015 09:57

I think the problem with testing early is that you are never sure if it's a negative because it's too early or because it really is negative. It always leaves you wondering until af. Turns up, or you test again and get the bfp. I totally get why you want to test early though! I'm going to be on holiday this month and wondering if I should pack a test in my case!

Tough dilemma!

I would test I think - more so that I knew I could have a guilt free drink if it was a BFN. Plus if your AF hasn't shown up by then there's still a teeny chance you could be PG so it wouldn't be that disappointing I don't think.

Thanks for all the replies, lovely ladies! Smile. I'm still not 100% on what to do. My husband worries that I might be really upset if I test and it's a BFN, and I think he might be right. But I guess I'll just see what happens on the day! I'll report back either way. x

Fingers crossed for you!! Let us know how you get on. And either way, have a fantastic 30th!

Sunshinegirl2015 · 17/08/2015 15:36

Good luck! I really hope you get a BFP! It's my birthday this week and AF is due today. Hope she stays away.

I tell myself every month that everything happens for a reason and so if it doesn't happen this month for you, when it does happen it's because it's the right time! Xx

cookielove · 29/08/2015 22:13

Did you test?

waitingforarainbow · 02/09/2015 09:21

UPDATE!

Hi Everyone,

So I tested on the morning of my birthday and I can't quite believe I'm typing this, but I got a BFP!!! This was on Sunday and it's only just sinking in now. I had been making a conscious effort this month not to dwell on symptoms, so I didn't really feel like I was pregnant - I only really tested to make sure I could have some guilt-free drinks at my birthday lunch. I used some cheapy HPT strips and couldn't believe when a line started to develop on both of them! I then sent my poor husband out to the supermarket for a digital test, which flashed up with Pregnant 1-2 weeks! It's very early days (I'm only 4 weeks 1 day today) and I'm feeling quite cautious after my miscarriage in March, but it really was the best 30th birthday present ever! Feeling extremely lucky.

Good luck to everyone else trying, and I hope you all get your BFPs soon.

x
