Baby talks, implant removal now or next year?

Hi ladies,

I'm really new to this site after following posts for a few months I've now decided to post.

So me and my partner are in talks about babies. Well we have been for the last year but knew getting a house would be our priority first. Were weeks away from moving into our new home (3/4 bed we planned ahead!). Were thinking maybe it's too soon to start trying this year with the stress of the house and getting that all finished by decorating, not to mention the new bills we will need to get used to paying(although we save lots anyway so bills won't be an issue)

So my query is shall I remove my implant soon? To let my body recover and get back into rhythm? I've been on contraceptive for 7 years non stop. The pill, the injection and now the implant for a year and a half. I've rarely seen periods throughout those 7 years. Although when I came off the pill once for 2 months I did have a fairly normal period.

I know they say with the implant our bodies should go back to normal fairly quickly. However I worry about the previous contraceptives and what that may have done to me. And by taking out my implant I mean we will use condoms for the next year before trying.. Or do you think I should just wait till next year for removal?

I would be asking myself the following questions - what would happen if I was caught straight away? Could we afford it? Would we be able to muddle through?

If the answers to those questions don't terrify you too much I'd say get it out ASAP!

I wish I had come off my depo jab before we had made the decision to try. 22 months later and still no luck, only ovulated 5 times, nothing seems to be happening. Little help from Dr due to my contraceptive choices (or so it seems) after another 6 months they say I can go on the ivf waiting list...

I came off the implant about 9 months before we were going to start TTC. I took that time to start tracking my cycles to find my rhythm and adjust back to having a regular cycle. It took about 6 weeks to get my first period.

Though fertility should come back "immediately" some people reported taking about a year and I didn't want to run the risk of being "ready" emotionally but not actually ready physically.

Kinda wish we'd just taken it out and started trying immediately as this is my 6th cycle and still nothing... trying to hold out hope though!

Thank you very you're reply vap how long were you on contraception for and also how old are you if you don't mind me asking? Yes we could afford but decorating would have to wait of course ha. So sorry you're having troubles x

Thanks baby bump. Were ready emotionally but we would like the house to be beautiful before we have a baby so we won't need to worry about decorating for a good few years. If it was OH choice we'd have one now. I'm the one who wants to wait. Maybe I should consider taking it out then I guess.. X

Was on the depo jab for 10 years, stupidly I listened to the warnings from the nurses who said it normally wears off within a couple of days of a missed injection and had the last one as I was going on holiday and didn't want af! Stupid me! Wish I'd done some research before hand.
After it wore off I had no af at all for about 8 months
Then it was horrible with
40 days on
3 days off
19 days on
6 day off
10 days on
20 days off
5 days on
22 days off
Then things evened out a little, but not much. I was a total mess! Exhaustion was the hardest thing and sore boobs for about 10 months, I couldn't touch them and if I ran I was in agony.

Anyway, roll forward to now and I've ovulated 5 times in the last 5 months which is positive but also a problem because as long as I'm ovulating they won't help me! Well for another 9 months at least.

Sorry, I'm having a downer of a day today. Just tested and had a bfn and am filling with disappointment yet again.

I urge anyone I hear of who think they want to conceive within the next few years to come off any contraception and just use condoms as I wouldn't wish this heart ache and enoutioal termoil on anyone.

Get yourself some opk's when you have it taken out and see what your body is doing.

Thank you so much for sharing your story. I am 20 and we're hoping to conceive when I'm 21/22. I was on the depo for many years to 'helo control my periods' as they were very heavy. Buy in the 7 years of contraception usage I've barely seen a few period that were the usual. I'm calling doctors later to book an appointment to remove. I'm pretty sure the implant has made me gain weight and it's very hard to lose. Before the implant I found it pretty easy to lose. X

Also I know that may seem young to a lot of people but we have been saving for years for our house. We've had many holidays and neither of us are the young party type. In fact us going out means date nights for food and a few drinks or the cinema or family bbq! Lol. Were not the average young uns. Boyfriend is especially family orientated and always wanted children young. Younger than what we're planning if he had his way! However house and being financially stable was our priority first x

I just had my implant removed and the nurse said that you can fall PG within a few days.

Unfortunately I wasn't one of those people but I'm only at the end of my first cycle so FX for the next few weeks

I came off my implant at the beginning of July and 3 weeks later am having my first AF (very very light, but its been 3 consecutive days, so I think it counts as AF). Have to say, as soon as AF came it's been a weight off my mind as reassurance that my fertility is back.

My advice would be to come off the implant, and if you're not TTC straight away discuss the option of condoms or going on the pill. With the pill you can have your monthly AF and plan your cycle. With condoms you can observe the natural pattern of your cycles when they kick back into action. That way when you're ready to TTC, you won't have to worry about whether AF will appear or where you are in your cycle...etc

Thanks all. I love this site! I think we're going to use condoms. We use them a lot of the time anyway as to be honest I feel cleaner after we've DTD(is that weird? Lol) so I think we will just continue to use them. I went on the implant as extra protection just in case a condom ever split to put my mind at ease. If it happened within the next few months we will be financially ready it'll just be not the ideal time, however what is to be will be :-) xx

I had my implant taken out March 2014 because I had had enough of it and went straight on the mini-pill cirelle. I stopped taking that February and after withdrawal bleed, got AF 33 days later. After that, my cycles have been 28 days for past 4 months. I started temping cycle 2 to confirm ov and I was.

I'd be reluctant t to go in combined pill as heard many stories of that taking months to get out of your system. I used to take combined and stopped once and took months to get a period.

Due to migraines, had to switch to mini-pill. Stopped taking that for a while and I remember my body skipping a period but turning up bang on time 60 days later, so although it took a little longer that time, 60 days is still pretty good going! I had been on it for a couple of years by then.

If you're happy using condoms, I'd definitely take it out now and start tracking. If you start tracking now, you'll know your body a lot better and hopefully won't go as crazy during the 2ww!
