Such a rude doctor!

So went to the doctors the other day and never met such a rude doctor in my life,I went because i am experiencing so many pregnancy symptoms and have done 4 test that all had a faint line but wernt sure if they where ghost lines or actual lines ,she asked me what she was ment to do about it and I asked her for a test to see if I was ,she huffed and said that now I was there she may aswell let me do a test,she dipped the test in didn't even wait and told me I was not pregnant and chucked the test straight in the bin,now if I find out I am pregnant ive been so put off to go to the doctors ,fuming xAngry

I think she does sound a bit abrupt, but to be honest I think her frustration lies in the fact that you wasted an appointment as it's not a doctors job to confirm a pregnancy.
In fact the tests you get at a pharmacy are likely to be more sensitive.
I don't mean to come across as rude but what's were you expecting?
Even if it was a confirned pregnancy, the doctor wouldn't do anything anyway. It's a midwife you'd see at a booking appointment at around 10 weeks.
I don't understand why you're angry about it. You should if anything feel a bit sheepish that you've taken up a doctors time when it's likely someone else was more in need.

Yes I get where your coming from but there was no need for the rudeness she showed towards me,this is the first time ive heard not to get a doctors appointment if you think you could be pregnant ,if that was the case why do they stock pregnancy tests ???? I went because I was confused by my last 4 test so wanted confirmation from a qualified doctor which many other people other than myself have done just no need for the blatently rudeness

I presume they stock pregnancy tests for many reasons.
They often need to rule out pregnancy during a consultation in order to be able to prescribe specific medication (which if taken while pregnany could harm a developong baby).
Also for ruling out pregnancy as it has a lot of symptoms similar to IBS, or gastroenteritis.
Also if someone in acute pain and could possibly have an ectopic pregnancy, and would need urgent medical care asap.

Ok that may be the case all I'm Stating is there is no need for rudeness off her,and from other posts i have put on here and read in here people have said go to the doctors which is exactly what I did, I bought mysef a few tests and was unsure on the result so like many other people sought a doctors advice

Just wait a few days and test again. your hormones should increase enough to make the test line more obvious. Or buy a digital test.

you don't generally see a gp for suspected pregnancy unless their are other medical reasons, you just book in with a midwife.

Yeah now I know I will in future , are the digitalis better than the normal tests?

I always went for the ones that say pregnant or not pregnant so there is no doubt in my mind.
Loads of people go to the Dr as that use to be the norm I'm surprised she was so rude about it.

Good luck, I hope you get a nice clear result. It's an exciting time, don't be too upset by the doctor there are lots of nice medical professionals that'll see you through your pregnancy I'm sure. No one wants to know for the first few weeks... It's frustrating. Xxx

To be fair I saw gp before midwife. That's what they do in my area. Gp saw me at 9 weeks and then referred me to hospital whose community midwife team got in touch for booking in appointment with them. Wasn't regular gp though. Was designated maternity clinic. Also didn't test to see if I was pregnant. Just took my word for it.

They don't retest you now everyone can buy pregnancy tests in Poundland. The doctor's POAS ones aren't any more accurate than the ones you can buy.

And antenatal care has been moved to midwives instead of GP.

My antenatal care was split between gp and midwives, two years ago.

It was the same when I was expecting my little boy had to book in with a doctor first and they gave me that yellow folder and pack then they referred me to the hospital and then assigned me a health visitor so didn't really think much of it going to the doctors as that was the norm when I thought I was pregnant but obviously not as her attitude stunk x

She may have been rude and she shouldn't have been, but to be fair their tests are the same so there's really not much she could have done. You've got some faint lines so wait a few days and try again.

I imagen she was just at the end of her tether with people coming in and wasting her time. Going to dr because you cant use a home test is going to annoy them rather, tnat costs the nhs money and time tney dont have to spare.

It would've been more productive, rather than being rude, if the GP explained where Katielou638392 could do in future if she has any queries and explain that the GP does not routinely verify pregnancies. Health services and processes vary widely, you can't expect everyone to get it right all the time sigh

Thank you jellybelly85 I really couldn't see the big deal about going to the doctors for what I thought doctors dealt with as that's why I went in the first place because home tests where showing up and wanted confirmation from a doctor as that what I was told was the norm and also did when I was pregnant with my son ,obviously times have changed now but like people have stated even if that is the case now no need to be rude to me about something I thought was perfectly normal to do x

She shouldn't have treated you like that - I've always gone to the GP first and then been referred to a midwife. Never made to feel bad about it.
Did you want to be pregnant or hoping you're not? Either way it's a hugely emotional time and she should have had the sense to understand that.

I want to be pregnant,she didn't know my circumstances i may not have wanted to be and have reasons why not and if she would've treated someone like that in that case that can cause even more damage to that person,what did people do before all these test came out obviously went to the doctors ,I find it mind boggling it's classed as waisting a doctors time considering people go all the time for something minor like a cold ,soon there won't be any doctors and it will all be online ! Lol x

At least a cold is an actual illness. Unlike not being sure if you are pregnant or not, which is easily solved by just waiting a week or two generally.

Who goes to the dr for a cold? Nobody I know!
Where I live you pay about 60 quid to see a dr. Somewhat focuses the mind on whether its necessary or not!
Anyway, get a digital test next time and wait a week or two, then you'll know.

Ladies as ive said that was the normal thing to do when I was pregnant with my son,all my friends and family couldn't believe the way she was towards me ,of course people go to the doctors for a cold people go for so many uncessary things which before anyone says I didn't think mine was unessasary,and another reason I went was because I was starting to worry about if I wasn't why I was getting all these symptoms and also being quite ill from them so enough of the can't belive you went to the doctors because u thought you were pregnant i get it already lol ,many other woman in my position have done so anyone would've thought ive committed a crime visiting the doctors lol

He's 2, and I was made to get a doctors appointment and then they gave me my yellow folder and new mum pack and they then booked me in with the hospital ,with myself and all my friends with children that was the routine doctors then hospital

Did you turn up last time and make them do a test when you had already done some that indicated that you probably weren't pregnant, though? Because I reckon that's where the problem lies.

The tests the GP uses are exactly the same. They can't confirm a pregnancy any more than you have already, unless they do a blood test.

There isn't some magic pregnancy test. If you've got a faint line the GP's test will only show the same thing.

Most areas now self refer to a midwife. Some areas the GP refers, but they won't retest you. What's the point?
