Hi all, just wanted to know the ages of everyone here trying for baby number 1. I've been told it's usually a lot of older mothers TTC, but I suppose that's usually not for their first baby.

I'm 21 by the way :) x x x

I started ttc at 23. I'm now 12 ish weeks with #1 and 25

Oysterbabe · 28/06/2015 21:56

Thanks!
I don't think it matters at all how old you are when it's the right time. I had a series of terrible relationships and only met my now husband 2 years ago. In an ideal world I would have met him 10 years ago, had 4 years of enjoying just having eachother then had a baby. But I was a different person then and probably wouldn't have been interested in him anyway. Now is the right time for me. Everyone is different.

  1. 3 years trying and no luck yet.
sophiedeana990 · 29/06/2015 08:18

Totally agree Oysterbabe! I met my OH when I was just turning 17, and now feels like the perfect time for us. It's amazing though how once you get into your 30's, TTC seems to take everyone quite a bit longer. Good luck to all x x x

I was 35, 40 weeks today with my first Smile

NewLeafExpat · 29/06/2015 08:29

starting TTC... just 29, now almost 31 and still trying!

sophiedeana990 · 29/06/2015 08:36

Hmm I'm really intrigued. I see so many woman who've started TTC in their 20's and are now in their 30's and no luck yet. This does concern me a little as I was hoping to have concieved by my birthday (3 months time lol).

Am I being a little too ambicious? I really hope I don't come across as rude :( it's just all my life I was led to believe it's really easy to fall pregnant at a young age, yet I'm finding the opposite is actually true.

Hugs x

I'm 35 and on cycle 7 ttc! Never felt ready for a child until a year or so ago...I'm too selfish and my twenties and early thirties were too much fun!

sophie all I would say is don't set yourself a target as this might add to the stress of ttc....I thought I'd get pg first or second cycle and I'm here 7 months later without a whiff of a bfp...I desperately wanted a baby by Xmas and was gutted when the opportunity passed.

It's only when you start trying that you find out how difficult it actually is to get upduffed! But don't panic, because it could well happen for you quickly, just take each month as it comes and try not to put any pressure on yourself. You're young and you've got bags of time!

sophiedeana990 · 29/06/2015 09:44

Yeah I really would've loved a bundle of joy in time for the Christmas season, I guess that's not to be anymore lol

sophiedeana990 · 29/06/2015 11:24

Oh wow, so were you 16 or 17 when you conceived your first? Good luck hun x x x

I'm 31 and TTC #1. Exactly the same position as TriJo - second month off pill, first month of actively trying

Lots of friends and peers are having babies now, I don't know many people who had babies earlier than about 28/29

I totally agree with Dizzy - trying to set a target just puts too much pressure on you and your partner. I would love a spring baby (hence actively trying now), but there's no point getting stressed over it! I will be taking each month as it comes and trying not to worry too much if it's not happening. I think the average time to conceive is 6 months, some get upduffed much sooner and others take a lot longer, there is no way to predict how long it will take each couple

Mummyofonesofar · 29/06/2015 11:47

sophie I was 15 when I conceived and 16 when I gave birth. I mc in May sadly so trying again now. Good luck to you too.

Stinkersmum · 29/06/2015 14:14

Started ttc at 38. Got my bfp at 39 after 13 months of ttc. Turned 40 last month, dc1 due in October.

Stinkersmum · 29/06/2015 14:18

Yeah, Sophie, youth does not guarantee fertility or ease of conception.... Don't set yourself targets or put anything on hold whilst ttc.

Honey85 · 29/06/2015 17:59

sophie that's very true ... You are brought up thinking that if you have unprotected sex, 9 months later you'll pop a baby out!

I was 25 when I started trying for my first and caught a year later. Most people I know have taken anywhere between 6-24 Mths with their first and varying ages. Very normal not to catch straight off.

I recently fell preg 'accidentally' at the grand old age of 30 (me and dh literally had sex once around fertile time) ... But unfortunately miscarried at almost 12 weeks.

So you never can tell!
