6 weeks pregnant just started bleeding

Not sure why I'm posting this really, just for support I think and any help or wisdom anyone can offer.

I'm 6 weeks pregnant and about half an hour I discovered I had brown discharge, then when I wiped there was fresh red blood. I was at work at the time just about to leave so I ran home and called the GP. The bleeding hasn't stopped, it's like a light period.

Is this a miscarriage? I hadn't really thought about it until now but I've just noticed that some of the symptoms I had like sore boobs have disappeared. However I don't have cramps or anything. Just waiting for GP to call back now.

We got pregnant first month and were on top of the world, it felt too good to be true. I'm so worried.

GP put me in touch with early pregnancy unit at hospital, they said to come in first thing tomorrow morning. Will be a long night.

Has anyone been through anything similar? What was the outcome? I was feeling so relaxed about everything, now I'm so sad and scared.

I bled throughout my first pregnancy and he's fine, sometimes it just happens. Sadly, my second pregnancy ended in miscarriage.

Fingers crossed this is a sticky one for you, but take it easy.

Thanks macca for your response, and sorry for your loss.

I've done lots and lots of googling which was probably a bad idea! However it seems there is no rhyme or reason to it, some women bleed and everything turns out fine, some women bleed and go on to miscarry.

I guess all I can do is wait now. For the moment the bleeding seems to be a bit lighter than it was, I really hope it doesn't get worse again.

I'm so sorry, it's such a worrying time. You'll be in the best hands are the early pregnancy support centre, and good you are getting seen so quickly.
There's lots of stories of good outcomes after a bleed, but be prepared for bad news as well. Will be wishing the very best f news for you tomorrow.

I'm sorry you are going through this… Me too! But yours doesn't sound too bad, if there are no cramps you might be ok. I am 5 weeks and bleedings with cramps :(

Just a story of hope. My SIL had bleeding from early on until about 11 weeks. It happened on and off. DN was a healthy baby and is now 5.

So sorry you're going through this.
I had the same symptoms as you back in August when I was 10, sadly I was miscarrying.
We got pregnant again in January this year and between 6&9 weeks I had very frequent spotting, light bleeding and brown discharge. I expected the worst but 3 trips to the EPU were all fine. Just had my 20wk scan today and baby is perfect.

Guess I just wanted to say that it could be something or nothing but your doing exactly the right thing going to the EPU. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you

I had brown blood at 7 weeks and again at 10 weeks. I was scanned both times and baby was fine.

At 14 weeks I had a huge bright red, fresh blood bleed, it was petrifying. I went straight to hospital to be scanned and everything was fine.

After that big bleed I had light spotting every day for about a week but the professionals weren't concerned by it.

He's now 14 months so everything obviously was fine Smile

Thanks all of you so much for the replies. This is the one night where my DH happens to be away with work, which is really rare! Sod's law! So I appreciate the support even more than I would otherwise.

Bleeding has been intermittent, for a while it was just brown but now there's some more red blood. Going to try and get some sleep and keep fingers crossed for tomorrow. Will let you know what they say.

whitewolf I'm sorry you're going through something similar, it really is awful. Hoping you get a good outcome.

An update...sadly the bleeding is heavier this morning, like a normal period. I've had cramps too. So I am fearing the worst.

I've had a scan at the EPU and they couldn't see anything at all. I'm now waiting for blood tests and then they will talk me through the results. But I guess it's not looking good.

I feel like I'm going mad, like I imagined the pregnancy or something. It's very hard.

I'm so sorry. It's so very tough to come to terms with. I also remember feeling like I imagined it as it all happened so fast. One minute I was pregnant without a care in the world, the next day it seemed like the end of the world. It will get better.
It's little comfort I know, but having a natural miscarriage like this means your body is aware of something going wrong and recognising it, and your recovery will be faster than if you had to go down other routes to resolve the miscarriage. (A lot of miscarriages don't occur naturally and can be undiagnosed for weeks and need some extra assistance like medical management or surgery).
After my natural miscarriage last July my cycle returned to normal after 4 weeks and I fell pregnant again the cycle after.
Please take time off work and give yourself plenty of rest and recovery time. It knocks you sideways emotionally as well as physically.

Thanks for your reply sizethree it is so helpful to know that my feelings are normal. Only 24 hours ago I was pregnant and everything was fine and I was feeling positive, and now it looks like I'm not pregnant anymore.

Physically I'm feeling ok but I keep bursting into tears so decided it was best not to go back to work this afternoon. Will have to see how I feel tomorrow, I don't really know what to expect.

Fortunately DH is due back this evening, I can't wait to see him again but it will be so sad at the same time.

Oh gosh, I'm so sorry you are going through this when he's not there. Timing is shitter than shit.
It is frightening how fast things can change. But it helps put a perspective on how precious life is and that it shouldn't be taken for granted.
I had zero idea how common miscarriages are until I had one. Athen lots of friends and colleagues told her their experiences and I began to feel a lot more hope that each and every one of these women have had healthy babies since.
Please don't rush back into normality. It's a big thing to go through, so be kind to yourself and rest up and take time to heal. There is no right or wrong way to deal with it though. Just fight on through.

Thanks everyone. I've had confirmation from EPU now that it was a miscarriage. HCG was only 70 and I was meant to be 6 weeks gone.

I obviously feel very sad but I'm ok. Most of the bleeding has stopped now. DH and I are both feeling quite fragile at the moment but we had a chat last night about when we might try again, we're not sure yet whether we'll wait a couple of months or not.

Worried I'm really sorry to read that. I hope you feel a little bit better soon. The good thing is that the physical pain has stopped so now you can work on the heart one.

I had 2 m/c in a row, I didn't wait for another cycle after the first one and I can now feel that it could have been a mistake. I can feel it in my body and I am emotionally exhausted. It's good to take some time.
