Confusion Over Ovulation!!! Long Story But Please Advise!

Hi!

This is my first post on here! I am hoping my post isn't too long and people will be put off replying, but here goes!!!!

I have irregular periods and am on a drug called Cabergoline, to help combat a pituitary issue which has messed up my periods for years! Sometimes going years without them!

I got my first period on the 3rd May! It lasted the typical 5 days give or take.

I took ovulation tests from Day 16 in the cycle as I was getting egg white type CM! Negative! Bedded several times just in case! Still faint to no lines on OPK stick!

For some reason took a OPK on 29th of May Cycle day 26. Positive! Hubby away sadly! Took another on 30th May Cycle day 27 still positive so bedded that night!

My questions are as follows:

  1. Could I get egg white CM and not ovulate!
  2. Could I ovulate that late (cycle days 26 and 27)
  3. Could I be having a long cycle and of ovulated on cycle day 26,27 or is that too late!
  4. Could I of ovulated around cycle day 16? As had 3 days of stomach cramps very much like AF, but no AF?

So confused as I have conflicted results?

Thanks

Should add stomach cramps came on 24th of month so possibly 8DPO if I did?

Also I heard positive OPK stick late in cycle can be positive for pregnancy? So confused? ~Keep forgetting things sorry for extra comments!

Yes to your last question. You should take an HPT, and good luck!

  1. You could have ovulated but got a negative opk for some reason, i.e. a bad batch of opk's, not holding the urine long enough, too dilute urine, etc etc. Or you could have got EWCM and then not actually ovulated.
  2. Yes you could have, or you could have ovulated more than once in one cycle, or your body could have geared up to ovulate on the 26th/27th releasing LH meaning positive opk and then not actually released any egg.
  3. Yes you could be having a long cycle, its not too late as long as your luteal phase between ovulation and period isn't shortened to compensate for the late ov. I.e. should be 10+ days.
  4. If you have ovulated you will get a period, (unless you are pregnant). You can have AF with no ovulation but not the other way around (unless pregnant). Cramps at 8dpo could be a good sign, possibly implantation.

Of course this applies to a "normal" cycle and I don't know anything about your condition which may alter things. You are 17dpo today are you going to take a HPT? Good luck op.

I would only be 17 DPO if I ovulated around cycle day 16 and the only indicator of this would be the EWCM but i had a negative OPK. Maybe I am having a really long cycle than and Ovulated on Cycle day 27 (positive OPK) so I would only be 3/4DPO so may be too early to tell yet. Unless like people said bad batch of OPK strips of wrong time of day etc to take them. Maybe the positive OPK was a hcg surge!

Very confusing! TBH I am nervous to do a HPT as I am far to scared of a Negative result. Been over 4 years since my DD was born, and very desperate for another!

I think I may of left it too late in the day (already had a wee) to do one now???? Might get a false negative (wishful thinking) May leave it until the morning!

Think I am looking to much into things as sooo desperate! God why is TTC so emotionally draining!!! Lol

Sadly, there are no clear answers to your questions. As you know, an OPK does not detect ovulation, only the surge which may lead to ovulation. You can get a positive OPK without ovulating in the same way that you can get a negative OPK through testing in the afternoon instead of the morning for example.

If you are 17dpo, first morning urine doesn't matter. You'd likely test positive regardless if you had conceived. If you are 3/4dpo, obviously you'll test negative.

Maybe you could go halfway between testing and not testing and order some cheap internet pregnancy tests from amazon or ebay and then you're not risking disappointment today but you're acknowledging the possibility.

Best of luck. What a rollercoaster.

PS love the term "bedded". It's v eighteenth century. Grin

Just did a HPT not sure why, it was negative. Could be a definite neg, or being so early and not using 1st wee could be a factor. Also lets say I did ovulate (pos OPK) CD27 and conceived then I would only be 3/4DPO so too early to tell yet anyways!

Alot of ifs and buts, but I guess you do that when you want something soo much, I am going to do the dreading 2WW and see if AF shows up as i heard its about 2 weeks from non ovulated egg to AF or being able to do a HPT!

Here's to day 3 of the wait! 11 more to go!

Ha I thought bedded sounded much better than the other options hah! For a 27 year old I think I am a little bit of a prude lol!

Nowt wrong with being prudish. Grin In this house, we sort of mumble "do you want to, er... you know..." with a nod at the bed.

Hopefully things will settle down for you. It's early days of regulating your cycle by the sounds of it. Fingers crossed for you.
