Hi - calling any health professionals out there, really appreciate your advice! Went to Africa back in March and therefore had live yellow fever vac (end of Feb) and took malarone malaria tabs until mid-March. When cd we start trying to conceive? I've heard anywhere between 3-5 months after but want to be doubly sure it's okay.

Is the Yellow fever the one that needs a booster or is that Hep A. Whichever it was I conceived during the week afterwards and dr assured me it was fine. Had visited Kenya 9 months prior.

ZolaPola · 03/05/2004 11:34

YF covers you for 10 yrs, hep A requires the booster. my concern is because YF is a live vaccine. Reassuring to hear it was fine for you Lizs, we went to Kenya too - Masaai Mara

I we went to kenya too 5 years ago as our last REAL holiday before concieving and from what i recall it was six months after the malaria tablets have you tried to google both and see what they say. Or do you think you could manage to wait till August anyway??

ZolaPola · 04/05/2004 19:17

HI Stace - yes, googled it and some info, gen for those already pregnant, we'll probably wait yes.

pleased to hear that you found out the answers, how long will you have to wait?

ZolaPola, the conversation has probably moved on by now but just wanted to let you know what I was told - had Yellow Fever injection to visit Tanzania and was told to wait at least 6 months and if possible 1 year as being a live vaccine not as straight forward, as there could be a risk of abnormalities or miscarriage. Obviously ignored that and got pregnant 3 months later and had miscarriage at 8/9 weeks, who can say that it definately caused the m/c ? However if I was in the same position again would not attempt to get pregnant so soon after a live vacine. Hope this is of some use.

Hi

I took Larium to go to Kenya before I conceived my little one. I was told by the GP I had to wait 6 months after finishing the course (bummer. Which I did...on a positive note we conceived lo on the first attempt!

Hope this helps

Specifically on the question of malarone, can anybody tell me when it is safe to try to conceive after I have taken it? Thanks.
