Low progesterone

I'd love to know if anyone is in the same boat as me and been diagnosed with low progesterone? I was told by consultant that I wasn't ovulating because my progesterone levels were only around 10. He then prescribed me Clomid but even on Clomid 50mg my progesterone level was only 8. Got scanned and it looks like actually I am ovulating but my progesterone levels are really low so was then given cyclogest. Gutted to find out that even though the cyclogest lengthened my LP my levels are still only 19
There seem to be other threads on various ttc issues but none that I can relate to. I just feel so down and alone as I've nobody I can talk to about this. Although my dh is lovely somehow he always manages to say the wrong thing.

Hello mrsbadger i think i have low progesterone levels although never been tested. I have enough synptoms for me to assume it is on the low side. I have lots of excess body hair, have spotted in every pregnancy until week 12ish, spot before period now too.
I have ordered some Serenity Progesterone cream from wellsprings as have read a few good reports.
How long have you been ttc and is this your first?
We have 3dc but dh and I have decided we would like another so ttc #4. I am about to turn 39 so keen to get cracking before it is too late!!!

Inmyshoos this is #2 as I already have a gorgeous dd who will be 3 in August. We've been ttc since dd turned 1 and my periods came back after breastfeeding. I had no trouble conceiving her and knew nothing about progesterone levels back then! But I do remember spotting in early pregnancy with her. Fwiw I tried progesterone cream but it did nothing.
How long have you been trying? Might be worth asking for a blood test to find out if your levels are problematic.

A condition called polycystic ovaries (PCO) can cause low progesterone to arise; do you actually have a diagnosis like this.

Progesterone is only part of the overall picture; have you had recent blood tests done (around day 2) to see what your LH and FSH levels are like?. LH and FSH are two very important hormones as they kickstart the ovulation process; if these are awry then ovulation will be affected.

(inmyshoos - have you ever read up on PCOS?).

No I don't have pcos it was investigated as a possibility with a lap and dye and hysteroscopy. I had a day 2 test done last summer and I was told it was fine. Maybe I need another test? Nobody has suggested this. I really do get the feeling the consultant doesn't know much. It's the senior nurse who seems to know more! If there is a problem with my day 2 tests what can be done?

Try not to focus too much on the levels.

I was diagnosed with PCOS many years ago. At age 20 it took me 18 months conceive and after that another 4 years to conceive again.

After 8 years I decided to try again, and with previous history my GP allowed me to have day 21 blood tests from the first month after coming off the pill.

First two months, progesterone was under 4. I was absolutely gutted as GP said I was not eligible for chlomid. Month 3 I had a level of 10 and again told no ovulation.

Funny that, got my BFP that month!!

May very well that I ovulated later than the test, but either way I am now 32 weeks pregnant!

Don't give up hope and try no to focus on the numbers too much, you'll just drive yourself mad x

Wow congratulations! That's amazing. I really am driving myself mad. I just don't know what the next step is. I think the nurse is going to try to up the dosage of progesterone but obviously needs to get the consultant to give me a prescription. Since I've been on this journey I've tried everything to increase my progesterone levels / lengthen my luteal phase but nothing has worked so I really am losing hope that it will get sorted and I am desperate for a sibling for my dd.

You need an up to date day 2 test; anything done over 6 months ago should be discounted.

Presumably your man has been tested as well.

It does seem a bit strange that you've already had a lap op and a hysteroscopy (why were these tests actually performed?) before clomid; usually clomid is prescribed initially.

I would also try and now seek a second opinion; it is vitally important that you do find someone you can work with.
