Me. I conceived the day my period finished, which I would think was a lot more than 5 days.

malodorantemelly · 09/11/2006 16:41

I've read on a website that swimmers can live 3-5 days (not very good odds for 5 days), its been said that swimmers can live for 7 days very rare though and at that, it's not been proven that swimmers that old can/have ever managed to fertilizes an egg! so if you OVed on day 14 and you last BDed on day 9, it is just possible, more possible if you BDed on day 11, but any more than 5 days for BDing at actual OV, I don't think so! Hope this helps!

Pollybloodyanna · 09/11/2006 16:58

I have conceived on day 8 and day5/6 (I think). both were girls.

NotAnOtter · 09/11/2006 16:59

me - more\than a week before- it was a boy

Babymad2DS · 09/11/2006 17:46

Thanks coggy yes feeling better, I'm just going with the flow now the whole thing really is out of my hands, if app aren't available it's no ones fault just s**t happens! I believe I don't need the results back to be able to have the scan done anyway. What upset me was the fact A my doctor are rubbish and B the time thing, as you've got have the smear and swobs done at the beginning of your cycle just after AF (which is where i'm at, at the moment) and then the result wont be back for 4-6 weeks a (cycle and a half) and you have to phone though to arrange a x-ray which has to be done just after AF, so at this rate my x-ray wont be until the last week of January! but trying not to get stressed over it! Trying! Have you ever had this problem!? Timing!

Babymad2DS · 09/11/2006 17:46

soz wrong tread!

themoon66 · 09/11/2006 20:05

No... it was a boy.

thirtysomething · 09/11/2006 20:17

yes, with my first baby, it was 6 or 7 days before I think I ovulated. btw this baby turned out to be a boy!

lulumama · 09/11/2006 20:21

have you? the thing is...you may think you ovulated on day 14...but you might have ovulated on day 10. in which case the 'week before' bit is irrelevant , IFYSWIM

to conceive a girl ( or attempt to ) you are supposed to make love days up to day 11 or so of the cycle, so the majority of boy sperms die off before the egg is release and more girl sperms are left..as boy sperms swim faster but die quicker !

malodorantemelly · 09/11/2006 22:01

Yes that is what I thought Lulamama, about boys being conceived closer to ovulation. But 3 mums on this thread had boys! Which has just blown my theory right out of the water!

Btw I only think I maybe. Have 4 already! And thought I was a specialist on the boy/girl thing - having 2 of each.

It's hard to know 100% when we OV,been trying to find that out the myself for over a year now still don't really know when I've OVed in the past even with soft ware! Sperm normally only last 3 days, can at a push last 5 days, like I said before. Regarding the girl, boy theory, my mother thought this same thing, BD up to a few days before Ovulations, but she was wrong she has 8 boys now and only two girls, me 25 and my 3 year old sister, she tried for 17 years for her little girl! But in the mean time treated my brothers like dirty just because they wasn't what she planned!

LadyTophamHatt · 10/11/2006 08:44

I have 3 boys and all were concieved between days 11-16 of my cycle.
Text book ovultion symptons for me.

I'm now 7 months PG after concieving on day 8 when none of the signs had chnaged. I had noticed that I was ovulating closer to day 11 more regulary(rather than days 14/14 etc) but never as early as day 8.

Oh and this PG will make me a mother of 4 boys so the girl/boy sperm thing is all rubbish IMHO.

LadyTophamHatt · 10/11/2006 08:49

We weren't TTC BTW.....I don't think I'll ever get over the shock of seeing that +ve result!!!!

So if you're not TTC NEVER EVER EVER use the rhythm/withdrawal method of contraception

malodorantemelly · 10/11/2006 19:48

lol Ladytophamhat!

We are not trying either. Not had a positive test yet, but really feel pregnant... so was asking my original question to see how many people had been 'caught out'!

Have serious symptoms already, (nausea, lightheaded, no stomach pain like I get every month after I ovulate) but no bfp. Af not due till maybe about tuesday next week though, so will wait.

wow! lots of kids malo! how old are they all? we are trying for no. 3 at the moment, i take it you would say its ok having lots of kids? i really want no. 3 cos i never thought my 2nd would be my last, but some days i do wonder how i would cope!

malodorantemelly · 10/11/2006 20:11

Greddyguzzler - Tbh somedays it is a nightmare, but they are all so bloody gorgeous!! We have ds1 nearly 7, dd1 4, dts (boy/girl) 22 months.

Like I said we are not trying, but now I feel pregnant I want to be, a bit silly really.

Does anyone know when you ovulate from when you 1st notice the ovulation eggwhite stuff?

OP posts:
greedyguzzler · 10/11/2006 20:30

i think you are most fertile when there is the most cervical mucus and you tend to feel horny then too, so i reckon you MUST be pregnant! i love people getting pg ( even people i dont know!) i really cant wait to get pg again (if it ever happens!) and have a cute little tiny baby!
your age gaps sound quite good! i bet twins was a bit of a shock when you went for no. 3 though!

malodorantemelly · 10/11/2006 20:55

Thanks gg, Yes just a bit, but a great shock! Actually I am panicking now, that I may have ovulated later than I thought, which means we could have b'danced 36 hrs later!

Conceiving before ovulation. I conceived my 3rd on the last day of my flow, day 7 and I usually ovulate day 11/12. My husband has a low sperm count, we were trying for about 7 months and this was just a oh well lets just do it kind of spontaneous, and bam I was pregnant and it was a BOY. That was many many years ago and now trying for number 4 for about 5 months tired of seeing the BFN, hard not to get depressed for days when af arrives. We have been using pre seed, hope it works to get those suckers up there for the waiting. Good luck to all, I hope we all get the BFP from Santa this year!!

Babymad2DS · 14/11/2006 16:56

I've been searching for information on fertility, infertility, sperm, egg and all that jazz, on the web for some time now, and most of the websites say that sperm can live 3-5 days (not very good odds for 5 days), sperm can live for 7 days very very rare though and at that, it's not ever been proven that sperm that old can/has ever managed to fertilizes an egg! Sperm normally only last 3 days, can at a push last 5 days, if you have very good CM, an Egg only last's upto 24 hours at the most, some websites even say only upto 12 hours, Hope this helps! Chin up I hope you get your BFP soon!

NotAnOtter · 14/11/2006 17:09

any news??

FemaleoftheSpecies · 14/11/2006 17:22

my gp told me that sperm lives for at least 5 days and that it can certainly fertilise at that time..

NotAnOtter · 14/11/2006 17:26

babymad2ds I was having ovulation tracking for ds 3 and KNOW exactly when we did it etc etc etc

My son was conceived no word of a lie with 7 day old sperm ...saw the egg - know when i ovulated..know how old the sperm was

No wonder he looks so odd
