Hello!!

I've finally bought A Seven Seas "trying for a baby" folic acid and I'm starting today. We plan of TTC in august.

I've just thought about stopping drinking ANY alcohol. I'm not a heaving drinker anyway so i'm not going to struggle, but thought i'd ask you guys if any of you took that decision before ttc...

Probably not many people, i know ;)

I cut down to just drinking socially at the weekends, birthdays etc and limiting it to one or two small glasses. I read a study somewhere that if you (and your partner) drink during the week you conceive you may be at a slightly higher risk of early miscarriage / not conceiving. All the guidance says to cut down, but they simply don't know the truth of how alcohol effects things because they can't do controlled studies on it! you probably don't need to abstain completely. I tend to go by the 2 weeks on 2 weeks off thing with drinking - ie abstain during ovulation/2ww and drink in moderation socially during af/post af week

Hi, I didn't stop until I got my BFP, I came off the pill mid December, started taking folic acid instead of the pill. Found out I was pregnant mid March. I know people where it's taking months and months to conceive. Each to there own I guess I wasn't a huge drinker and you just stop as soon as you see that BFP. Good luck Flowers

Ironically I started taking these just after Christmas and then found out I was pregnant at the beginning of January, I can assure you I had plenty of alcohol during this time and only stopped once I got my bfp, lots of luck and hope you get your bfp soon :) xx

I found out I was 5 weeks pregnant with #1 the day after my best friend's wedding. It had been a boozy day and preceeding few weeks and I was really worried. I stopped drinking as soon as I found out and everything was fine. I told the MW and she said it was quite common...Blush Blush

...and good luck for August OP!

Really interesting thank you - we went out yesterday for my DH work party and I started with a coke but then found out it was a bit boring so just had a couple of mixers (wk blue and sm**off ice).

It's actually harder than i thought (i didn't even know what to order as i usually drink cider!!) Especially as i started to think i don't want people to notice something's different. DH says who cares it's up to you just do what you want.

We are going on a cruise in August that's when we plan to TTC. It's with his parents for his mom's 50 birthday, so i think realistically with all things paid for, it will be hard to avoid alcohol completely.

I like the idea of limiting it to two drinks though.

I don't know when i am ovulating but that's a good reason to start reading about it as you said, stay off alcohol when i am!

I seem to remember that I didn't worry about the alcohol until I was possibly pg, in other words, for 2 1/2 weeks in the month I ignored it and then was more careful just before af was due. Having said that, I had a boozy night the night before af due as I wasn't getting pg and thought sod it......ds is now 14.
