boris I had a CD21 test last month which put my progesterone at 23, which the consultant said is within the normal range and shows I am ovulating.

I guess I will just temp again next month and see if I get a rise around CD19. It might just be that this month is a weird month and AF turns up 5 days late or something...

nightandthelight · 05/05/2015 12:31

Put either side of their name birchy* :) Are you also testing Saturday?

birchygoo · 05/05/2015 12:34

nightandthelight I am indeed testing Saturday - are we testing buddies. Fx for us both!!

autonomousplum · 05/05/2015 12:37

woolly I will get you an app to keep track! Grin

ZippyBoo · 05/05/2015 12:46

Hello All,

I'd like to join in, I'm going crazy here...

This is my 18th cycle ttc. I'm on cycle day 36. In the last 18 months my next longest cycle was 29 days. Most of my cycles have been 25 or 26 days.

I have a metalic taste in my mouth, a tight feeling in my stomach, frequent urination and a thin watery discharge. I also feel a little warm and light headed.

I've done 5 pregnency tests in the last 6 days, all BFN. Last one was a clear blue this morning. I've just ordered some FRER tests which should come later in the week.I rang the doctor this morning and cannot get an appointment for another 9 days. I'm going mad here!

Anyone else???

Hairstylisttoboris · 05/05/2015 12:46

banana I guess you need about 3 cycles of tempung to know what your patterns are for sure.
I think my ovulation was put back 5 days due to ill health.
Fx it's a sensible explanation for you.

MaybeMrsMum2016 · 05/05/2015 13:09

Welcome zippy and other new ladies!

oddly I think today could be 13 or 14 dpo. Not sure as I haven't been tempting, just a few pretty cheap of sticks, and a slight knowledge of what's happened in a previous cycle. Basically, an app I have predicts an ov day, and I think it happens 2 days later. Good idea about using another cheap stick this afternoon. Don't want to be doing pant-watch during every wee for much longer!

nightandthelight · 05/05/2015 13:31

I am indeed birch good to have a testing buddy :)

Sounds like a nightmare zippy being in such limbo. I really hope you get a positive result soon! Have you been taking any medication or anything this cycle that could have messed with things?

OP posts:
oddlyinpatient · 05/05/2015 13:34

zippy do you have any idea when you might have ovulated? could ovulation have been delayed at all (anything unusual - flights/stress/etc at that time)
If not - sounds really promising and I'll keep my fingers crossed for you! You might just be a late tester (a friend of mine has had three babies and has never tested positive until at least ten days late!)
That's annoying about the doctor - though the tests they use tend to be higher tolerance and so unlikely they'd give you any answers either. Unless they agreed to send you for bloods. Unfortunately you just need to wait. But hopefully this will be your lucky month!

maybe that is quite early still - so any line will probably be very feint. Let us know how you get on testing later! exciting!

oddlyinpatient · 05/05/2015 13:42

Ive made it to the afternoon of dpo 13 - still no af. Period style aches have subsided. Just waiting Blush Blush waiting. Temp was still high this morning - really hope it doesn't drop tomorrow!

sarah1391 · 05/05/2015 13:53

Hi everyone...just wondering who does temping/uses OPKs? I'm thinking of doing one so wondering which is easiest? Or should I do both?

nightandthelight · 05/05/2015 13:56

Hi Sarah I do both :) The advantage of opks is they warn you that ov is approaching so you can up your game DTD wise. However they cannot confirm ov, only temping can do that so it's handy to do both. Also opks aren't 100% reliable (I didn't get a single positive this month but temping shows I ovd).

Hope that helps?

OP posts:
parsnipbob · 05/05/2015 14:00

Hi Sarah, I temp and would recommend temping over OPKs as temping is the only method that will give you 100 per cent certainty that you ovulated and when. OPKs can show up positive but you may not ovulate. They can also show up negative but you may still be ovulating.

That being said many lovely ladies on here do just use OPKs so do what works for you. If you are just starting ttc then you could always use OPKs for the first few cycles and then add temoing into the mix if no BFP just so you can confirm O is actually happening.

Obviously temping is no good for telling you when to dtd as only shows O after it actually happens. But as long as you're DTD regularly you should be ok.

I find temping very easy, keep my thermometer by my bed and set my alarm for the same time every morning, but know others don't find it easy to remember.

To sum up: if you're only going to do one I would do temping, but doing both won't hurt and will help you. :)

parsnipbob · 05/05/2015 14:01

Sorry cross post with night there :)

Hope everyone is ok today? Not caught up yet but will do now.

sarah1391 · 05/05/2015 14:17

Thanks night and parsnip :) think i'll try temping as sounds easy enough!

nightandthelight · 05/05/2015 14:24

It is quite easy :) I don't even set my alarm, my body seems to wake me up in time! I'm not religious about getting the solid three hours sleep beforehand, just make sure I don't get out of bed I.e I might be lying in bed awake before I take my temp but will lie still.

Hi everyone, I'm completely new to all this and finding it all a bit confusing! I've seen people talking about waiting till their period is due to take a pregnancy test but what about if you have irregular periods?

parsnipbob · 05/05/2015 14:55

s0 if you periods are irregular (how irregular are we talking?) I would start taking your temperatures in the morning to a)pinpoint when you are ovulating and b)check you are actually ovulating as if your periods are extremely irregular it can be a sign something is not quite right.

Your bbt (basal body temperature) will rise after you've ovulated and will stay high until your period is due. You need to take your temp immediately in the morning when you wake up before getting out of bed and at the same time (roughly) each morning. Many ladies here use the fertility friend app to track their temps.

And welcome :)

parsnipbob · 05/05/2015 14:58

Oh and forgot to say, temping will tell you when your period is due as -) your temp will drop before your period comes so you know it's on the way and (b) temping allows you to see how long your luteal phase is (luteal phase is the time period between ovulation and your period coming. Your luteal phase will stay the same month to month. So for eg if it is 12 days, even if you O on day 13 one month and day 22 the next, you still know your period will come 12 days later.

s098 · 05/05/2015 15:02

Thank you Smile I will try doing that!
I've never been regular and was on the pill for a long time on and off. Took my last pill on the 13th march and had a period just after but not one since. Did take a test about a month ago as kept feeling sick but it was negative.

oddlyinpatient · 05/05/2015 15:02

Hi s098 how irregular are you - do you know? Do you know when you ovulate?

Most people can find at least a partial pattern. My periods are usually anywhere between 28 and 39 days. All depending on when I ovulate which can vary significantly. My luteal phase is a fairly consistent 11-14 days. I didn't know any of this until I tracked and temped.

Maybe start using an app to track your cycles. I recommend Fertility friend. When you join, they offer you some 'lessons' which I found really useful when I started as I had no idea what I was doing!

Good luck!

Sarah I'd also recommend temping - but only if it won't frustrate you. I know someone who hated having a daily reminder she was ttc. But I found temping really useful.
On a cynical note, I tempted from quite early on when ttc my first as I had it in my mind I'd have problems. If I did - I wanted to be able to go the doctor after 9months and give them all my data so they could see if I was ovulating etc etc. I didn't want them to send me away to spend another three months temping so they had my data. No idea if this would have worked in practice as luckily I didn't need to go down this route - but that seemed logical justification to me for any days where it annoyed me!

oddlyinpatient · 05/05/2015 15:02

sorry for the essay! I'm in the hairdressers so have time on my hands!Blush

parsnipbob · 05/05/2015 15:06

Oddly you sound just like me, I also temped from the outset for that reason :)

Woolly84 · 05/05/2015 15:21

Another new temper here! It is very easy to do, I combine with OPKs so I know when to focus efforts but agree with the others, if you have to pick just one then temp, and keep an eye on your CM (cervical mucus) - Egg White means Green Light! Grin

Woolly84 · 05/05/2015 15:26

autonomous that sounds perfect, though I do expect crosshairs everytime you change names and daily tidbits Wink
