Hi all,

First ever post here, but I am TTC after having had Mirena coil since I was 18 (so 10 years, 2 separate coils). Its only been 4 weeks since removal but other than one hormonal day, no signs of period and two negative tests so far. Needing some advice, support and to share this with people who have been there as its all very new to me. And no one is my family has ever planned a pregnancy so any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance all.

Hi Emma, did you continue to have periods whilst you had your Mirena in place?

I was told that although the Mirena isn't designed to stop ovulation or periods it can still do so in 25% of women. I was also told that for that women whose periods did stop it can take a little longer to fall pregnant as all the hormones have to reset themselves and normalise again, whereas women who still had regular periods don't have that issue.

I only had my first Mirena coil in for three years and got my positive pregnancy test about pregnant 6 weeks after it was removed. I'd always had regular (but very short and light) periods whilst mine was in place and following it's removal I had my normal period about 5 days later (when it was due anyway) and then I fell pregnant the next month.

I have seen a lot of threads though about the Mirena and a lot of women (those who had periods and those who didn't) who got pregnant pretty quickly after it was taken out, usually within the first four months.

The best of luck to you!!! Flowers
