Thoughts on getting pregnant by 'pre-cum'?

Can you get pregnant this way? There are lots of conflicting opinions on this. Has anybody here got pregnant before by using the withdrawal method? Me and my husband had unprotected sex four nights in a row (leading right up to my fertile window) but he didn't finish due to horrible meds he is taking. What do you think my chances are of becoming pregnant? X

Small amounts of senen can leak out of the penis prior to ejaculation. Each ejaculation contains approx 500,000 sperm and it only takes 1. There's an old joke that people who practice the withdrawal method are called parents. Better sort out some contraception asap.

I have been thinking the exact same thing...
Ovulated last monday and used his method saturday and sunday - 8 days later I start cramping and spotting... one week earlier than expected period. 3 days later, its still happening but with BFN yesterday.

I believe there were studies done whereby out of 100 couples who use withdrawal method in a year, 14 would become pregnant? Or something like that?
So, it can happen...

legseleven83 · 16/04/2015 14:02

Sorry, I should have stated that I'm hoping to become pregnant!

Thats alright! People use whatever method they feel comfortable with, no need to justify :)

I think we use it because we arent fussed either way but we could do the whole planning thing - we'd freak out and do a u turn haha.
If it happens, it happens is our way of looking at it.. :)

When are you due AF?

dreamingofmynextsleep · 16/04/2015 14:18

that was meant to say *couldnt do the whole planning thing ...

legseleven83 · 16/04/2015 14:56

I knew what you meant lol!!! My cycles are longer do I still have to wait until the first of May! It's only because of the medication that I'm asking, it's such a pain for him and for ttc!! X

I used it for 2 years no issues. Apparently sil got pregnant this way, but gave the impression that much like a transformer, there was more than meets the eye about her story.

lottieandmias · 17/04/2015 06:24

I think it's one of those things that can happen in theory but isn't very likely. I'm super fertile but never got pregnant using withdrawal method. The partner I had that used it was very good at pulling out in time though.

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 17/04/2015 06:27

It can happen (waves to DS2). Dh has now had the snip! Good luck.

IfYouWereARiverIdLearnToFloat · 17/04/2015 06:38

I think it's just your luck. There's a chance it can happen but it's hard enough getting pregnant when he's not withdrawing early.

Also does the phrase "pre cum" make anyone else a wee bit sick in their mouth?

legseleven83 · 17/04/2015 06:47

Haha! Yes, it's not a nice word! Lol We are also both super fertile! We already have four children and I've had three other pregnancies that we lost unfortunately. We would like one more but doesn't look like it will be yet....unless we are lucky! Thanks for all your help x

I had an unwanted pregnancy as a teenager - the sex lasted all of 2 minutes (we were interrupted) and he was nowhere near ejaculating.

BabyBumpHopeful · 22/04/2015 03:07

There was a study done that showed that men who have sperm in their pre-ejaculate will always have sperm in it. Those that don't, never will.

Here: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3564677/

Specific section "In every case where an individual subject produced more than one sample, he either did or did not have spermatozoa in all of his samples. In other words, it was never the case that a subject sometimes had spermatozoa and sometimes did not."

So whether you can or not depends on your husbands pre-ejaculate. I'd say it's unlikely, possible, but unlikely.

Dreaming, sperm can live quite a few days (6 or so?). If you had a 27 day cycle it might have been that your period started day 1, you had sex day 8 or 9 of your cycle, you ovulated day 13 of your cycle, had implantation spotting starting day 16, might get a very faint positive pregnancy test Tuesday coming with a sensitive test. However it might be best to wait til next Friday/Saturday - day 26 27 as it can take two weeks after ovulation to get a positive

puzzledleopard · 22/04/2015 15:54

I don't think its that likely but I watched a program a couple of weeks ago that involved this. They tested a group of lads and 2 out of 6 or 8 had Semen in there pre-cum and it was a decent enough amount and good quality and were told they could in fact get someone pregnant.

Exactly what someone put earlier it only takes one!

When I saw the program I was like :O because it seems no matter what contraception I'm on anyway I seem to get pregnant by accident.

DavidTennantsBeard · 22/04/2015 15:58

DH and I have never had a pg using withdrawal method for 21 years.
