TTC but no luck so far

My husband and I have been together for 10 years now, I've been desperate to start a family a few years ago, but we only started TTC about 4 months ago now. (he was never ready before) I'm now 34 years old. I got an app on my iphone which tells me when I am ovulating plus I get other symptoms too which help me to pinpoint when is a good time to try. However I have been disappointed every month so far. Got through so many preg tests!! I can't help myself. Every month I get to this point in time (5 days before p) and I confuse (or convince myself) that my pmt symptoms are pregnancy symptoms! I get it all, accept this time I have an upset stomach and headaches. Can anyone else sympathise with this? When I have asked friends (3 of them with their 1st babies) they all report that they 'knew' they were pregnant before taking a test. All of them were pregnant first time too. They all say different things, feeling of being hung-over when waking up in the morning, headaches, swollen boobs... I feel I am having all of these but am still disappointed ): granted I've not been trying long. I can take a test on Saturday as I will be one day late then. Does anyone know if you can realistically take it any earlier? Or is it best to wait until you are late?

You can get a early response test - you'll see them in Boots - but in reality it's better to wait if you can as the odds of a false negative are higher the earlier you test. You can see the %s on the box or the advice leaflet.

Also the best early response tests are quite expensive...

I think most people here will sympathise with the symptom spotting. TTC seems to make you focus more on your body and things that happened every month virtually unnoticed become more apparent and significant to you.

Last month was my first cycle of trying for my second and I was absolutely convinced I was pregnant because I had all these symptoms. I wasn't

wishiwaspregnant · 14/04/2015 12:56

thanks CarrotVan for the response! I guess i'm getting my hopes up like all of us on here but it's nice to have someone to talk to about it. Yesterday I had an awful belly ache (TMI) and have been getting frequent headaches, although still drinking lots of water... I also woke up sunday morning with what I can only describe as a 'hangover' (I did go out Saturday night but did not touch a drop of alcohol) but again I might be making up symptoms to please myself! Haha! Due to take a test on Saturday according to my iphone app.
fingers crossed for us all xxx

I didn't have a clue that I was pregnant. Convinced I wasn't, just a late period.... I know it's easier said than done but give it more time, 4 months is nothing.

MsAR · 15/04/2015 07:21

Symptom spotting is crazy making! I did it for the first few months and all that happened was that I got myself really upset each when AF did show up. I'd recommend keeping a diary of changes in your body each month. You'll know how long each cycle is and what your pmt symptoms are. The month I got my BFP I'd planned for my period... Knew when it was due, I had all the usual pmt symptoms but it was only when I was officially late that I noticed an unusual change that I hadn't had at that point in my cycle that prompted me to take a test. I drank wine, relaxed and didn't even worry when I went through that final 2 week wait as I realised how long and painful that felt for me. I know it's easier said than done but you must relax about it. 4 months seems like forever, but it's really not.

Best of luck... your turn will come!

wishiwaspregnant · 15/04/2015 21:13

thanks ladies, I think I'm feeling pretty relaxed about it now that I have realised I'm not alone! I'm away this weekend, so I'm thinking that if I test on Saturday (when I'm due on... AF? what does that stand for?) then at least if its negative I can have a cheeky glass or two of wine (this month I've abstained for the two weeks post ovulation) I feel pretty attuned to my cycle and have always known my PMS symptoms and when to expect them, some months stronger than others. Not had any yet this month tho, but wont read anything into it (:

Hey ladies can I join?
I'm trying to conceive #2 DD is 10 months old husband is keen even though we have only been married 2 yrs. Wants a son and I'm thrilled but I feel like I'm not fertile. My periods have always been here and there and we never planned our daughter it just happend. How can I track my ovulation? I'm only 21 and feel clueless to all this thing.. Can anyone help me?? Grin

wishiwaspregnant · 16/04/2015 21:57

Hey ilikesponge123 of course you can join in the convo! You can track your ovulation by counting the days from the first day of your period to 14 days after. Ovulation normally is around day 14 of your cycle. Or around that time. So basically start trying a few days after your period until you are knackered!!! Lol. You can get apps on your phone (there are tonnes of free ones) I tracked my cycles for a few months before we started trying to get an idea of how regular I was. Turned out I have a pretty much 28 day cycle. Try an app as it maps out your fertile days for you! Good luck! Youth is in your side you lucky thing ??

Have you tried an ovulation predictor test?

My DS was conceived by accident based on me using an app that "told" me I ovulate on day 12 when actually I know because I am TTC now using opk that I ovulate on day 16! You could just be getting your timings a bit off?

Ilikesponge123 · 16/04/2015 22:03

Thank you Iwishiwaspregnant
I'm new to all this thingy, social thing lol despite my age no fb or twitter. I'm so old fashioned its only ever since I had DD I have considered doing this. That sounds like a good idea, my husband is supportive so thats good I suppose. I probably sound crazy for wanting another so soon but I would love a DS for her.

How many do you haveGrin?

mrsmugoo · 16/04/2015 22:41

Ilikesponge why don't you come join the TTC #2 thread we have going?

wishiwaspregnant · 16/04/2015 22:53

Ilikesponge123 I don't have any children yet... ttc#1 and CD26 so testing this weekend. Though this month I've had no symptoms of AF so don't know if that means I've not ovulated this month? Normally my pms symptoms are strong /:

I do recommend the free fertility app (iPhone) as it also tells you ovulation symptoms to look out for. You can edit the settings so that if you do ovulate (can use the test strips to check this too) then you can tell the app it's cd16 or whatever it is. Gives loads of useful advice too. Mrsmugoo you should try it too! ?? I'm taking a test tomorrow as it's day 28 of my cycle... Fingers x although I was 2 days late last month which got my hopes up! Hmmm x

I've been using fertility friend app and clearblue digital ovulation tests

Ilikesponge123 · 17/04/2015 10:54

Thats great news Iwishiwaspregnant Smile how do ovulation strips work then? I've never heard of them and no idea how to use. Our DD wasn't planned as I didn't think I could have children because im so underweight and periods all everywhere. It sounds like a fab idea! Mrsmugoo thank you and I shouldGrin dont understand the lingo just yet :D my DD has just started getting her teeth now got 4! Sorry for late replies also as I work full time didn't finish until 10 last night Envyxx

sophie150 · 17/04/2015 10:58

Please don't panic! Your friends are not at all representative in terms of having got pregnant in the first month of trying. On average it takes 12 months to get pregnant. I would see the gp at 12 months though if still no luck. Good luck xx

Strawb9999 · 17/04/2015 11:09

I'm in a similar boat. TTC this is the 4th cycle, using clearblue ovulation tests which are currently flashing so I'm pretty sure I will OV tomorrow. Was 13 days late for AF last cycle and was convinced I was pg! Went symptom spotting mad! Hoping this will be my month!

wishiwaspregnant · 19/04/2015 18:30

Oh nooooo my monthly visitor has arrived!!! Darn it! Negative test yesterday morning followed by... Oh blast I wasted a test as it was literally a few hours later! Oops! Next month I'm gona take my friends advice and wait until I'm actually late instead of testing on the day my P is due... I was away with friends in the Lake District and a brewery tour was on the cards... So I got to do some ale tasting at least! Lol (: How's everyone else doing? Any news?? xx
