Chances of conceiving twins?

I'm just laying in bed and as per usual alls I think about are babies as im ttc#1. The question 'could I possibly have twins?' Keeps arising in my mind, I would love twins although it's a scary thought and I just wondered if anyone knew whether or how possibly likely it could be of conceiving them given that my mum is a twin, her mum is a twin, her mums mum is a twin (and I'm not sure about the mums after that...) but all non identical. There's no history of twins on my OHs side, I just thought if there is on my side with it being such close family, could I have a tendency to release two eggs?
Probaby wishful thinking, haven't been blessed with one baby yet and I'm already wishing for two at once! Just a thought Smile

I think that statistically the chances are around 1 in 100 pregnancies are twins although it cod be slightly more prevalent than that.

I have twin daughters and the chances of them having twins is a lot higher. I read 1 in 17 chance but not sure how correct this is Grin

Your chances are pretty high as you have a family history of fraternal (non id) twins. These result due to a woman's ability to produce two eggs at the same time instead of the usual one and this is passed along the maternal line so from mother to daughter.

Yip. Identical twins are pure chance whether or not there is any history in the family, but women who have non-identical twins in their line (not in male partner's) have a higher chance of having them herself due to producing multiple eggs on a single cycle.

Thank you allSmile

Since its my mum, grandmother and great grandmother that are all non identical twins I always get the "you're going to have twins" comments and ive always wondered whether the I'd have a much greater chance than anyone else. It would be so lovely!
