Is it routine to scan my kidneys??

Hi all

Been a while since I've been on but looking for some info/advice. I've been ttc since June, my cycles have been all over the place from 27 days right up to 45. Long story short before I was on the pill my periods were a complete nightmare, so painful and so heavy.

Anyways starting the pill was like a god send and had wished at the time I'd started it sooner. In recent months since coming back off the pill my period has been really painful and heavy again so went to the doctor who referred me for a pelvic ultrasound scan.

I've never been for one before so wasn't sure what to expect. After she scanned my pelvis she asked me to empty my bladder and go back in. When I went back in she said she wanted to scan my kidneys. After she did that she didn't say anything to me, only that she'll pull the report together and get it to my doctor. I'm wondering if anyone else has been in a similar situation and whether they just scan the kidneys as a matter of routine or if it's likely she noticed something that prompted her to do this?

I don't feel unwell and certainly don't want to start worrying about nothing, chances are the report will just state that everything was clear but i'm hoping there may be some ladies out there who'll be able to share their similar experiences with me. many thanks Smile

Hi op,

I had my pcos scan on Monday & my pelvis & kidneys were scanned. She asked how long since lmp & said she didn't see anything to worry about and to book a gp appointment to discuss further.

Apparently they will tell you if they can see pcos as its so noticeable (like a bead of pearls) so I think we'll both be fine xFlowers

Let me know how follow up goes.

Thanks so much for your reply. I think I just felt a little alarmed because I wasn't expecting her to scan my kidneys and the fact that she didn't tell me whether it was clear or not got me thinking too much. My main concern was endometriosis so just hoping that and Pcos can be ruled out.

Glad to hear your scan was clear and hope your next scan is to check out your little baby Smile
