christmas nights out

dh and I decided to start ttc recently, but am now wondering if it was silly to do it right now given the time of year and all the xmas nights out that will be coming up. anyone got any tips on how to not make it too obvious that i'm not drinking (particularly on my works night out and around the family at xmas), as I am known for enjoying a tipple or two on such occasions. really don't want to put off ttc for a couple of months as i'm sure you can all understand.

I would still have a few drinks, you don't have to get hammered.

I am going to try for a dry month in November and then just drink on special occasions in December.

Pigletlib - I know what you mean, I have tons of drink related things coming up and am really worried that people will notice if I do not drink like I normally do (i.e. a lot!). They also know that my motto is "sorry drinking not driving" but I think I'll use the following excuses (in fact, we could have a thread on believable excuses!):

  1. I'm driving
  2. Last night was such a heavy night & I can't face it
  3. I'm trying to cut down to lose weight
  4. I'm on anti-biotics
  5. My stomach ulcer is back!
  6. None of your business!

just ask the barmaid to help you out

ie put a vodka-and-lemo-sized lemonade in a vodka-and-lemo-sized glass

or drink water in a wine glass

or take the car

or pretend you are on antibiotics

I think the most believable one is I had too many last night and have got a hangover from hell so am driving - not sure how many times it will work though

i know - i've thought about the driving one but we have a small office (15 people) so we all know each other fairly well, and they know I can get home without the car. Might have to confide in my bf at work and see if she will help me out - friends of ours kept it quiet for the first 3 months by the husband drinking the wife's drinks at all our dinner parties etc. and we just thought his tolerance for alcohol had gone shooting down.

Thats a good one, but to be honest if i do get a BFP i prob will be telling close friend before the 12 week scan. So not too much of an issue with me, but am having a month of this month so am sure that will raise a few eyebrows.
